So I was out on a joy ride yesterday, put on around 300kms. We stopped at a lodge for lunch, sitting outside in their patio we were close to a lineup of other motorcycles, mostly HD.
While sitting there I could hear 2 guys looking at my S10, Harley riders, you could tell by their attire. In the conversation between them the weight of the S10 came up and one guy said its a whale of a bike, that Yamaha's are too heavy to be any good as an ADV. While a third guy joined the conversation, also a Harley rider said your not suppose to tip them over.
I innocently stayed out of the conversation as if I did not hear or owned the bike, just listen in.
Anyhow, that night (last night) I decided to do a little research on this weight issue you hear so much of in comparison with 2 other main brands. I did not check others.
Comparing flag ships of the brand in the category.
I checked several sources for specification and took the average.
The Super Tenere 1200XTZ bare bike RTR comes in at 566lbs.
The BMW GSA 1250 bare bike RTR comes in at 590lbs
The KTM SuperAdventure bare bike RTR comes in 544lbs
Interestingly the KTM is chain drive, not shaft drive and only 22lbs lighter.
So my question is, WTF is the weight issue in the S10?
Other then You Tube misinformation, internet Trolls being underhanded compensated by competition, the S10 falls right in there with any other large ADV motorcycles, to bad minions fall for You Tube and Internet BS and don't do the research.
If this guy was interested in the S10, his buddy killed that, cause now he thinks its heavier then anything else out there.
