How is the Comfort of the Seat?

I have never owned a touring, long distance, or cruiser type bike, just about 30 dirt bikes, dual purpose bikes, sportbikes, and now a motard (WR250X).

I am pretty skinny in the ass (if that matters) and have never been comfortable in the saddle on any of them for more than about an hour.

I will reget a Tenere purchase if I can't spend a day on it comfortably.

So to you guys who also have experienced tender backsides on the types of bikes I have owned in the past, how do you hold up on the Tenere after hours in the saddle?

BTW if you have found you have an iron backside on every bike you ride please don't respond that the Tenere is just fine.

Thanks

If I ride in dragon jeans I get the seams digging in within about two hours and need to stop and regroup, but when I am wearing my Klim gear (no seams in the same places) I can go all day..
Need to ride standing for a couple of minutes every 45mins or so, but that's more shoulder related.

I haven't got an iron butt or huge ass, but it's definitely not skinny either.

Greg.

I can honestly say that the stock ST seat is the most comfortable stock seat that I have ever been on.... I get to ride ALOT of bikes, and this is one of the very top... In my ride report the seat was one of the most impressive items on the stock bike.. I will not be changing mine out.. I also find it kinda cool that after a year plus, I cant remember reading about anyone complaining or out looking for a better seat..... I'm sure some people being big, short, tall, Etc.. will want a different seat. I'm 6' 185 and fits me great and is comfortable I thought !!!!! Of course EVERYONE will have there own opinion but this one is mine.... ;D

hey welding rod, if you are coming off of dual sport bikes and dirt bikes, um last i checked the seats are narrow. The Tenere seat will feel like a lazy-boy recliner compared to them. If you are wanting to ride longer and feel better on the buttocks, you might want to look into LD Comfort shorts. Many Iron Butt Long Distance riders swear by them and they do a great job of wicking away the sweat from the ole cheeks!!!!

Finally a thread I can comment on.

I'm kind of a big guy with a big butt and I found the saddle just starting to get a bit noticeable after about 2 hours, I wouldn't say it was uncomfortable but i was aware it wasn't exactly right for me at that point in time. Stopping for a smoke break made a difference and I was good for another 2 hours, however I think long term I would try and find someone to make me a gel saddle or fit a sheepskin if I was going on really long journey's.

Hope this helps

Tim

Where is everyone's manners?! ;)

WELCOME to the Forum Welding Rod!!!!

We have to rely mostly on the folks across the pond that have all ready taken delivery as our rides here have generally been in 30 minutes to an hour range. Not enough to REALLY know. I think you need a full day in the saddle to even have a start of an idea of how well it is going to do. Usually, I like to own/ride a bike for several months before changing either the saddle or the windscreen.

Good luck and again welcome to the Forum!!

:)

Welcome. My demo was like 12 minutes, and way back in November, but I remember thinking, "I could take off on this bike right now". Very comfortable. Course I had a K1200GT and lots of people changed out that seat while I thought it was fine.

So i've just spent 10 days with my bike riding from my home to the Isle of Man for the TT races, so i've had two five hour sessions in the saddle and then lots of riding around the island. I'm 6ft 6in and 20 stone, i'm going to be replacing my seat foam with some higher density foam as it is not comfortable enough for me. After about two hours i started to get a numb bum, moving around a bit helped but having a short stop helped more. If the higher density foam doesn't work i'll look at alternative options.

Previously i had a DL1000 with a Corbin saddle, that was more comfortable that the S10 for me, but that was a £300 saddle so should have been. I would spend the money on a Corbin (if/when they make one for the S10) as i thought it was worth it.

Haha

I bet it was your bike I saw on the ITV4 channel TT coverage, setting off from the grandstand with your mates

This is what I would expect if the stock saddle is not dense (firm) enough. I'm hoping mine does a little better due to the difference in weight, but if not, I'll be looking for an aftermarket alternative. Sargent perhaps?

I've done a few longish days on my FJR, and I've always felt the saddle is too firm (I need just a bit more give). When I demo'ed the SuperTen, I thought the saddle was very comfortable, with just the right amount of give for me. I'm 5'9" and about 190#.

I have now done quite a few days over 200 miles and one day over 400 miles and the seat is as good as I expected but after more than 10 hours in the saddle on a day I did need to stand up for 5 or 10 minutes at a time while on the road. I didnt want to stop just to rest as it was the run home so had 2 coffee stops and 1 petrol stop. I used to be fitter for riding when I had my FJR and did 95000 miles in 5 years and you get used to being in the saddle so you last longer before pain sets in.

Any seat can be made better its just that I dont think the teneres needs anything done unless your going for iron butt status. It is a comfortable bike to ride standing up which helps with any discomfort in your nether regions.

Thanks for the replys.

If the bike is easy to ride standing up I know that can help alot to get blood flowing through the prostate area and so forth.... good to know.

BTW I am 5'8" and about 170 before riding gear. From what I have read I imagine the Tenere should seem pretty spacious to me.

Jeff - I have a some LD Comfort underwear. Yep, great stuff. Very high quality. I know Mario (one of the company owners). He gave me a set after I helped him with the fabrication of a mount for a long distance fuel tank for his bike. He is one of those guys who lives to ride 500 + mile days and the like.... personally I would probably be crippled after one day like that.... crazy!!!

HoebSTer thanks for the 411 on the LD shorts. I have been trying to decide on what to replace my aging bicycle shorts with and those are just the ticket. Just order up the shorts and shirt.

I have never seen a big dualsport seat that is perfectly comfortable for more than 2 hours. The ideal seat for a dualsport touring bike is like the S10 seat. One that is wider than a dual sport but narrow enough for moving around on it for when the road gets a little more adventurous.

BUT THE MOST IMPORTANT FARKLE IN MY BOOK is my Airhawk Pad topped by a sheepskin. Around town those extra pads are not needed (and look sort of dorky!), but on a long trip the airhawk inflatable pad eliminates pressure points, the sheepskin adds to that and also gives a little more "breathing" for your built-in seatpad and helps reduce monkey-butt, and the little extra height helps straighten your legs a little on long trips and assists those with "more mature" knees and joints!

I had about 40 miles on two S10's at the Romney Cycles demo this weekend. Too early to tell, but seats were definitely not as comfortable as the Corbin on my Vee. Then again, the Corbin has had 60,000 miles to conform to the shape of my butt (or my butt conformed to it! not sure which). I'm going to give the S10 seat at least a few thousand miles before I come to any judgements. I don't see a Corbin seat available yet, but I'm certain there will be one sooner or later.

Hey Hobster, I ordered the LD gear and it showed up last week just before a planned three day ride..nice suprise. Wore them on a 1000 mile three day ride...dirt and gravel for 20 miles, temperatures from 45 to 101. Without a doubt the best undergear product out there. This is the best gear money ever spent. Thanks for the tip.

I've just done 850 miles in short order ... I wore Draggin jeans and got a bit sore after day three. It's a blend of the kevlar and seams of the Draggins and the super grippy surface of the Tenere's seat. It is comfortable and you can ride on it all day but I can see why some would want a custom seat made for them.

I have done 15000km on my S10 so far ..short rides the seat is fine but the long distances I use airhawk . I don't think i can make it without the airhawk. I can't even sit in a car seat for more then 2 hours so go figure... :)

Just curious, how much does the airhawk add to the seat height typically?
