How do you remove the OEM locks from the OEM panniers?

Hello everyone. I searched this topic before I posted, but couldn't find anything specific. I need to remove the lock cylinders from the OEM panniers from my 2014 S10, but before I unscrew something that shouldn't have been unscrewed, I'm checking with all of you to see if you can tell me how it's done. The cases were dealer installed, and I didn't get the installation instructions from them when I got the bike.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Open the case and remove the rubber cover on back of the lock. BEFORE YOU REMOVE ANY SCREWS USE THE KEY AND MAKE SURE THE LATCH HOOK IS ALL THE WAY OPEN AND HOLD IT THERE BY STICKING A SMALL SCREW OR PIECE OF WIRE IN THE HOLE ON BACK OF LOCK TO KEEP THE LATCH IN THE OPEN POSITION. I used a small scratch awl to hold mine open while I switched mine out. When that is secured, remove the screws and disassemble the lock set and reinstall in the reverse order. Just remember that the latch needs to be held in open position during uninstall and reinstall process. They come from factory with small screws that you likely don't have any more. Just improvise a little and you'll be fine. Takes a tamper proof torx bit to remove the screws.

Hope that helps

Thanks to both of you, and for that tip about the lock being held open. Are those screws on the back of the lock tamper resistant Torx screws, or tamper resistant allen head screws? My eyes aren't what they used to be........

Ok, it came out with no problem. Just want to confirm that this is the only part that should come out when I remove the lock cylinder (see attached photo), should I decide to sell the panniers.

Keep the whole lockset, front and back complete.

Thanks Steve, and thanks everyone else. The locks came out with no problems. Now I can get the panniers packaged up for sale.

Hey, I got a couple extra sets of lock cores with my OEM bags; the set on the bike use a separate key, the extra cores use the ignition key. I have a torx bit set, but apparently don't have a bit this size, anyone know what size it is? Also are these the same screws everyone says come loose and have everyone with OEM panniers having lock cores fall out?

Size teeny. Had to borrow from machinist neighbor.

Yes, they can come out-, I loc-titied mine 3 years ago. Still good.

Why change? They're so stiff to turn, I had a special key made as the stock ignition key was starting to bend. That key can break, I've read. Having two differing keys means you'll never break your ignition key off in your pannier. Just a thought...
