Sounds like some really rough areas that you rode through. Do you think, in retrospect, that this was avoidable? Also, if you didn't have the Rumbux, what type of damage do you think you would have incurred?

Thanks,

Thanks,
Area is rough, that's the reason for going with the rumbux, and having a chassis mounted skid plate. I just feel that the strength of the plate itself could be improved. I have spoken to rumbux, as it is a local product for me, and they are very keen to look at improving their product, possibly have two versions available.

If i did not have a rumbux, it would no doubt have been a lot worse, and yes, i do understand the physics of the scenario.

At the time, i was probably doing about 40km/h, which would have also played a part.

The pics below are after we beat the plate straight with a rock, which was not difficult to do, and so is a concern.

How thick is the aluminium in this skid plate?
In the pictures both, the plate and the bended transversal bar looked very thin

The skid plate is 3mm thick aluminum. Some skid plates on the market use 4mm. ( edit 8/13/17 - Note: Later Rumbux versions changed to 4.5 mm thick aluminum on the Super Ten fitment. Some have 6mm plates, (GS fitment) )

Note that the impact was hard enough to not just bend the skid plate and damage the sump, but enough to seriously bend the STEEL cross bar, which would have bent the bash frame in as well. That's one heck of an impact.

I have Jaxons plate and can say it is a very stout piece. I have not tested it yet but if I ever do get into some really rough stuff I am sure it will hold up. I sure don't want the cost of getting a big bike out of a remote location after I have dumped all the oil through a hole in the pan. Makes the price of the plate seam cheap.

Call Jaxon, he will fix you up.

I am more than happy with my H&B, it has withstood some pretty severe hits, but what he was riding in was stuff to avoid not hit! Baby heads are one thing, but those were like elephant heads which must be avoided at all costs!

I try to dangle on the edge of good momentum but slow enough to avoid heavy objects/hits with weight shift on the pegs. Doesn't always work. What gets me, is suddenly running into shady areas from well lit sunlight, hard to see the bad areas.
