Thanks for posting Mellow...
If those could be mounted more outboard, away from the headlights, ie in the handguards, on lower forks or crashbars they would make good conspicuity lights.

I mounted some LED's on the handguards of my 800GS (ala Audi) and they really caught other driver's attention....plus they lighted the side of the road a bit as a bonus...

I've seen folks do that before, but I've never seen the result in person. You are right, something about the Audi's that have these do catch your attention.

Do you have a close up pic of the lights installed on the hand guard? How did you mount, what LEDs did you use, etc?

I bought the LED strips at Autozone for about $25 for the pair if I remember correctly.
I think I had to cut the strips to length. There are little arrows indicating where each segment can be cut.

They are self stick and somewhat flexible when mounting in a straight line if that makes sense. For security, I used a bit of safety wire on each end by drilling small holes in the handguards.

I ran the wires inboard along the handlebars and wired them through the canbus connector on the BMW so they were switched to the ignition.

On the ST I would use a front turn signal/running light wire for switched power...they have very little power draw.

That's the only pic I have...

And if you can get them to flash with the signals would be very cool, probably not hard to do but my head hurts in December.
Not hard at all. Just tap into the running lights and the turn signal and run both into a NAND gate. This way they're on when the running lights are on and the turn signal is off, and they turn off when the running lights are on and the turn signal turns on. Piece of cake, just need the right IC.

Send me your address in a private message and I'll try to calculate postage from me to you then the cost to get them to me and we'll go from there.
::008:: Mellow for helping me out! Look forward to install these even if that means that I will need to remove the entire front once again. :'(

Hi DinX,

Sorry, but I ordered these for a couple of friends and myself, so only have very limited spares. How many would you need? Plz send me a PM.

I don't know how they will hold up to the heat in the headlight, that's typically been the issue with LEDs in these types of headlights but I'll report back after some time.
Cool. I think I may try to order some of those. We can get the 45 lumen variety off the shelf, but I haven't seen any of the single 3w, 200 lumen. Must be because they don't comply with road worthiness inspections. I noticed the DDM site said 'for reverse lamps only' once they went above 80 lumens.

Received the LED's from Mellow and fitted them. Man, they are bright! I have Xenon headlights, and without the Xenon headlights on, it is almost impossible to look into these LED's. They are piercing bright.

I also fitted one for the numberplate lighting.

Thanks a million Joseph! ::008:: ::012:: ::012:: ::012::

I'm choked. ::007::

Ordered two of the 3W/200Lumen bulbs and another lower wattage 360 degree bulb for the plate. Total was around $24. Placed the order and waited to hear how much shipping was going to be. Would you believe almost $20. ::010::

I got back to Lily and asked if they could ship snail mail since I'm in no real hurry for them. She gets back, and no way they can change their shipping routine. :-[

Ok ... get hold of a friend across the line in Bellingham and he says no problem to ship them to him. Get back to Lily, and no I can not change my shipping address. D'oh! ::010::

Canceled the order and am not happy. ::007:: :'(

Sorry ... had to vent a little.

Well, one of mine on my ST1300 stopped working. I don't know if it's a bad one or it's just not pushed in tight enough. The ones on the Tenere are still going strong and I installed them there first so could just be an installation issue. I'll update when I have a chance to get to it.

If you push it back in and it works, put a little dielectric grease on it (and in case someone just has to say something, I mean to put the grease on the connection side).

I had a similar problem with a pair of 4w LED's I'd replaced the standard parking light incandescent bulbs with. After awhile one of the bulbs stopped working, yet I found quite per chance that the LED in question would illuminate if I hit the surrounding plastic fairing. After disassembly to replace the bulb I found that the little LED wire connectors were slightly out of alignment with the female connector which was a tight fit causing the wires to move off to one side and loose the connection. Once I realigned the wire connector of the LED so that it was making proper contact, and reinserted it the LED started working again. The LED's in question are T10 sizes with a single wire bent over each side of the base of the LED (see attached photo).

Hey Mellow I'm loosing confidence in these Chinese made LED aux bulbs. Just had my second one crap out on me. It was working fine and today my replacement shows up for the first one that stopped working and when I installed it and turned on the key the side that had been working stopped. They still owe me a free replacement from the first go round because I went ahead and purchased a replacement not wanting to wait for their free replacement. I figured I would keep the free replacement as a spare but the way things are going it will be needed. I think I am done with these bulbs and the company. I wouldn't trust those HID kits from them they have to be Chinese made at that price.

Sorry to hear that... This is a common problem that many on the ST-Owners.com site have had when trying to use LEDs for that same area. I think it's a heat problem, the headlight area heats up a lot during average riding. I was hoping the hi-power meant these were more resilient, maybe not. The ones on my S10 are still doing fine.

As for the HIDs, all the kits I've ever seen are made in china so I don't think the company has much to do with it, they just source them from the same area in china. The nice part about our S10 setup vs the ST1300 is you don't have to get the additional relay/wire harness the ST needs to control the hi/lo action of the bulb. Being a single filament bulb type setup, it takes some of the extra 'stuff' out of the equation. I like the kits so far.

I hope you have better success glad they are still working for you. I think I might check out Batteries Plus and see what they have. I checked out a local store the other day and they have a great selection of auto bulbs and much more.
