Hi all,

I am 46 years, live in Portugal and recently bought a ST1200. I think it’s the 2011 model (first generation) but the first register is from September/2017.
I confess I bought mainly because it was a good opportunity as the bike was completely new on a Yamaha dealer that closed doors several years ago. Despite that I am quite happy with the bike. My previous experience with trails comes from a Varadero where I did some good trips in Europe several years ago when the family was smaller.

I’ve joined this forum because apparently there is a lot of helpful information here. The topics I more interested on following are:

- Crashbars – I believe I should add ones before its too late
- Top case – Ive side panniers but need a top case where I can put my helmet. Considering original Yamaha or givi outback
- ECU reflash – I want to see what the experiences are as there seems to be a small gap of power when pulling away..

I also have a Yamaha MT01 that complements very well my riding pleasure.

Regards,

Artur

Greetings from Malta and welcome to the forum. The 3 items you list are more of a personal choice. As for crash bars I went for Touratech (expensive, but rather low profile). I have the GIVI V46 top box (much bigger than the Yamaha top box). I did not do the ECU reflash (I'm averse to fiddling with the brain of the bike).

I'm sure others will chime in with their opinion.

I have the Altrider crash bars, I am happy with them.

Before flashing your ECU, you might want to adjust the CO settings to see if that will fix your power gap. There are several good threads on this forum about it. Check the "Tech Discussion" forum board.

+1 here from Portugal and congrats on your new bike.

For the price of the original Yamaha cases you can buy the Trekker Oubacks and still have money for a lot of more stuff.

Try motostorm.it they have awesome prices and delivery at your door in less than a week (my own experience). If you a buy the all set of Givi cases they will match all the locks and keys.

Edit: Btw if your bike is under warranty don't mess with the ECU.

Welcome aboard and yes, there is a wealth of info to be found with the SEARCH box here.

On an unused bike like that, don't be surprised if you need to replace the battery before too long. When you do, the YTZ14S will fit in the same space and is more powerful. The old tires may also be a bit slippery at first.

The early bikes had a headlight harness which was replaced as a recall in our country, so you might check on that. Not expensive or hard if you need to do it yourself.

The only other real weakness was the cam chain tensioner (CCT). There are a number of threads around here with more info, but basically if you hear a rattle on start and the rattle lasts more than about 8 seconds the CCT should be replaced. Yamaha dealers only sell the newer replacement which is improved, and some owners have elected to install aftermarket manual CCTs.

Welcome, I will second the recommendation for the altrider crash bars. They were the first change I made to mine. Have fun!
