I’m 65 years old and just got my MC license in 2012. The following spring I bought a new Honda NC700X. I picked it because I liked the ergos, the low center of gravity, the storage compartment, and the price. I ride mainly on pavement and only occasionally on unpaved roads. The NC700X is great for commuting to work and day trips, but my hips and knees start to complain after an hour or two in the saddle. I’m looking for something with more comfort and power for longer trips. Compared to other adventure bikes, I like the Super Ténéré because of the low maintenance shaft drive and standard cruise control on the 2014+ models.

I’m hoping to find some good info and get a few questions answered on this forum. My first question is, how do you pronounce Ténéré?

::004:: From Alma,Arkansas. At 69 years and counting I understand about hurting hips and such. I like the ST it fits me and does not add to my pain level. Power is there along with the comfort of knowing if I want to take a side road I can. Maint no problem, check and change oil/filter add fuel and ride.

Good Luck and glad to have you on board

I am 64 (in a couple weeks) and last year did an 800+ and 988 mile days then rode (my other bike) to work the next day. If it feels right, go for it.

Welcome aboard uneasy. I'm not sure on how to pronounce Tenere, but I sure like riding it. You will enjoy participating in this forum, there is a lot of good info here. Are you a Cub fan?

Yep, I've been a loyal Cubs fan ever since the playoffs started. I grew up in Cleveland, so I guess I could have been consoled if it went the other way...

Pronounced "S10".
Did you buy one yet? Wasn't clear from your original post.

What part of Chicago? Hoffman Estates here.
Having Cubs withdrawal now.

Howdy from the western burbs! I think the S10 would be a great bike for you. Being able to stand up on the pegs makes it very nice to occasionally stretch your legs. Also with the seat in the high position it gives a ton of leg room.

I think the correct pronunciation is ten-a-ray? ??? Probably close.

I prefer "ST" over "S10" due to the Chevy pickup with the same badge...

Here is what Rider Magazine had to say about the pronunciation:

Ténéré (pronounced tey-ney-rey), which means “desert” in the Tuareg language, is the name of a dune-filled region of the Sahara. In 1991, Yamaha swept the Paris-Dakar Rally podium with its YZE750T Super Ténéré, based on the XTZ750 Super Ténéré production model sold overseas. When the Super Ténéré finally debuted in the U.S. for 2012, it was a much larger machine, powered by a 1,199cc parallel twin and weighing in at 579 pounds fully fueled.

I still say "ten-a-ray".

Uneasy4now welcome to the forum, i think the NC700 you picked was a great first bike ! A couple of my friends own them and love them. It sounds like you are quite adventurous so the Tenere might work out great for you. I happen to own a 13 Tenere and a 02 Honda Goldwing and love them both for different reasons but the Goldwing is deffinately my all time favorite so i think you should also take a serious look at GL1800 Goldwing .
