Hey all - any riders in the Philly burbs/mainline area?

I've had my Tenere for a few months now, and just crossed the 1,000 mile mark today. When I first got the bike, I thought I maybe had made the wrong decision, but after some good seat time I am learning why everyone raves about this bike. Got out for a ride today up to the Hawk Mountain sanctuary near Port Clinton, PA via 422/662/143 from Wayne,PA. Also often ride the area between Chadds Ford, West Chester, and Coatesville...some great routes through horse country there. And, I try to get down and ride the gravel around the C&D Canal and also get over to the Pine Barrens once and a while (haven't done the sand on the S10 yet though). Anyways, give me a shout if you ride the area; I can usually get out a 3-5 hour ride each weekend and know a few good 100-150 mile routes without too much highway time, and unpaved roads are included whenever possible. Always looking for new riding buddies as it seems to get harder and harder to match up everyone's schedules.....

Gundy,

It looks like I am in the general area as you, I am up near East Norriton/Worcester area.

I ride that loop out to Hawk Mt as well. 143 near Lenhartsville is a nice twisty road along the creek before you get to Hawk. I also ride the 82 loop and around French Creek area on occasion as well. Heck, even some good quiet roads running around Del. Co. I was out in Hamburg this weekend but unfortunately w/o the ST, still it was a nice drive out and back.

We will have to connect some time. A bit cold out for me at the moment, but when the weather breaks soon I try and do a few multi-hours rides around Mont/Chester Counties each week.

From my last trip around Hawk Mt. and up to the Fire Tower in Port Clinton . . .

Gundy,

I live just a few miles from Hawk mnt. Give me a ring. I,m also looking for some riding buds. I run back and forth to the Wellsboro area quite a bit?? Hate the slab, always looking for the long way around.

Good stuff - I figured there had to be a few Tenere owners around here. I agree its not the greatest weather now, but once it warms up, I'll post back here and we can all try to get a ride scheduled. Also hoping to get out to Michaux SF sometime this year and do any of the organized rides that are "big-bike" friendly.

Hi Grundy.

I live in northern Delaware and frequently ride in the Chadds Ford, Coatesville area. Most of the 21000 miles I have on my S10 have been in that area and Amish country a little further west. I have been to Hawk Mountain on the S10 a few times. I ride year around (cold is not a problem, but won't ride with ice on the road). We can meet up sometime if you want. Cycle Max near the junction of 82 and 322 might be a good meeting place. You can look at bikes and get coffee there if arrival doesn't quite sync up.

I'm retired now ("retarded" as my wife says). So I'm usually available for a spontaneous ride...

I'm in King of Prussia. I'm pretty familiar with the Hawk Mountain area (Orwigsburg, Pottsville, etc), but not so much the trails and gravel roads yet. My last bike was a Versys650 and that was my easy transition from street/sport bikes to an adventure bike like the ST. I'd be up for hitting some dirt and gravel roads in the area. I have almost no experience off-road, so I'm hesitant to go alone in case something happens. But, I'd be up for a small group ride.

This Saturday the 28th I'm going to a RTE at the General Store in Forksville, PA (360 miles round trip, or 490 miles when you properly try to find the appropriate gravel and snowmobile trails :) ), arrival 12pm.
The RTE originated on the ST-owners forum (Honda ST1100/ST1300), but my route to any RTE destination is Tenere style (on my Versys) as described above.
Drop me a PM if you want to ride with me and then have the best cheese steak North of Philly.

Besides the RTE, please drop me a PM if you want to ride another time in the "neighborhood" which includes the beautiful North-Central PA. I'm in West Chester.

You guys missed a great ride! Lots of north central PA twisties, washed out gravel switchbacks, forest roads, the works. 500 miles for the day.

I will try to suggest more rides like this one, because I think it would be great fun to do together.

I just ordered a set of Shinko 705's for when my oem BattleWings are worn out (flat-spotted the rear in the first 3k miles, but still plenty of tread depth at 6500 miles now). Once the dual-sporty Shinkos go on, I plan to start hitting the real BACK roads, dirt and all.

My S10 is running street tires, but I still have a klr 650 or XT600 with some knobby's. Won't be available till end of July though.

I've ridden part of the TNJT. Parts of the route in the south are deep sand and definitely not S10 territory for me. Even difficult on the WR250.

Will monitor the thread. Set a date and I'll join if available.

Mmmyeah, not a fan of deep sand either. I was drawn by the pictures in the included thread link that showed hard and rocky paths, no sand.
