road and off road, either will work.... If your looking for an off road sand tire... that would be the Karoo ! !

The Metzler Karoo 3 would be the strongest for the rear on sand?

quick edit - the Metzler Karoo 3 is off the table as it is between 180 and 200 for the rear. Yikes that's pricey!!!

No sorry, the one before the '3'... its almost has motocross knobs......................... I just looked in my book, it doesn't look as if they offer the (1)-(2) versions any longer......

Another to think about would be the Pirelli Scorpion Rally

A typical Tenere is gonna be approaching 1000lbs once the bike has a rider with gear, full tank of fuel, any crashbars and skid plates, and other misc stuff. With that in mind, I seriously doubt you will see much difference in performance from the three tires you are contemplating - TKC, BB, K3.

The BigBlock is a hell of a bargain at a hair over $100 and a damn good offroad tire - I have flogged the crap outta my last set and they were amazing (albeit I never rode sand). But they won't get you much past 2500 miles if you use 'em the way they beg to be used.

I understand and a bike like this is not sure footed in the soft stuff no matter what tire is on it and takes a special person to make it look like it is. I can tell you first hand I have seen these special people and I am not one of them on a 600+# motorcycle. ;D

OK - I had Revzilla match the price on the Kenda Big Block rear that rockymtn was advertising. $110

I then purchased from revzilla the TKC80 front tire since they beat rockymtn @ 118

All said and done I'm expecting the tires this week.

I should be able to mount them myself right? No need to balance them since I'll be mostly off road and if I'm on road I'm not doing any high speed stuff on a knobbly....

Break the bead, peel old tire off, get the new one on, inflate until bead sets then deflate to normal PSI?

Yep you got it. Although you'll more than likely still have to inflate to your intended PSI.

The Big Blocks need some "forceful persuasion" to get them on as they have tough sidewalls. Easiest is find a buddy with a tire changing machine or just recruit a second set of hands and do it on the ground. Heat them up first by tossing them in the sun on some asphalt for an hour or so - that will help you a bit as will being generous with your lube.
