Hi everyone!

Newby here! I picked up my new XTZ yesterday, having traded in a pretty wonderful and utterly reliable Aprilia Caponord I'd owned for 9 years. Exploring the owners manual, I tried to remove cowling B (the one covering the fuses above the battery / toolkit cowling). I removed the 4 caphead screws, but the 2 quick disconnect fasteners sort of flummoxed me (page 6-9 in the owners manual). Very embarrassing... How are these fasteners undone???

Also, where is the best place to splice in a switched live for an intercom to be installed under the rider's seat? The electrics are so neat and tidy on this bike, it's difficult to know where to start!

Many thanks for any help or guidance!!

I'm not in my garage looking at the bike, but if they are the small, plastic fasteners, they have a small 'head' in the center of the larger head. Take a small screwdriver or awl and depress the center portion. That will release the tension on the fastener and you can then pull the larger head outward to remove the fastener. To install, pull the smaller head out (towards you) and place the 'feet' of the fastener into the hole, then push the smaller head flush. Hope this is the right fastener!

Hi and welcome!
Depending on what year your bike is (not sure about '14) but just forward of the battery, but before the tool roll, there are two 'loose' connectors, white with end caps, one with 4 wires (heated grips) and one with 3 wires (aux) the one with the 3 wires should be used, the brown wire ( please check yourself, as I will not be liable) is a switched lead, so that when the ignition is one so is that lead. I've just used it to power aux LED DRL. I think there might be a pic somewhere already. Look up aux switched power source and you should see the link.

There is a good thread on this topic about the wires. I have mine torn down now installing a PDM60. My memory is not as good as it used to be but I will give it a try. Please look at the thread to confirm:

3 Pin Plug
The Aux light plug, (3 wire), is Red/white - 12v unswitched power (20 amp fuse), Brown - 12v switched power from ECU, Black - Ground

4 Pin Connector heated grip plug, (4 wire),
Blue/black = 12v off the key switch, Black/green - 12v off the headlight relay, black - ground, light Green/white - ECU trigger.

The quick release fasteneres (NOT the plastic rivets) stay with the fairing. just 1/4 turn loose and the whole bottom piece works out. Do not need to remove the cap screws on the upper cowling.
