I find it amazing how much difference helmets make when riding. wind turbulence, fit, communication, noise and all can affect us in so many ways I could have never imagined.
A few months ago I rode my XT on the KAT with a few guys (on beamers....shhhh) and I pretty much finished off my Shark modular. So later at home and in need, I bought a Gmax 54 from my dealer. A decent enough helmet. Suddenly, I started to notice the clutch whistle at about 2800 RPM. I thought, well this is what everyone is talking about. It was time to change out the basket, But it seemed intermittent to me. I have YES and was going to try to get it warrantied.
I realized that it was only when I wore the GMax. Indiana doesn't have a helmet law and I sometimes (not ATGATT....shhhh) don't wear a helmet. I couldn't hear the clutch without the GMax . I kept trying to get a hint of it without a helmet by moving my head about trying to keep the hit at 2800 or so. But I only could hear a whisper. I decided to buy another Shark Evo and again no clutch whistle.
this is really odd to me.
Now that I think about it, maybe it would have been cheaper for me to do the clutch basket mod.
Anyone else experience this?
