I must confess as to never using an on bike helmet lock. It is hard for me to leave my helmet for some vandal to mess with. Straps can be cut with amazing speed leaving the helmet in the parking lot (best) or stolen (worst). If you want to leave a helmet attached to the bike, why?, then use a PacSafe helmet net. The PacSafe is a bit spendy, but how much is your helmet worth?

Think of this, if you were riding in a state with helmet laws and the strap was cut or worse stolen, how can you legally ride?

Thanks, but no thanks, I will carry my helmet and they can keep the $1.00 helmet lock.

Good Luck

I use a cable gun lock from eBay.

http://m.ebay.com/itm/Universal-10-digit-Safety-Gun-22-Steel-Cable-Combination-Lock-NEW-/151344693317?nav=SEARCH

I can use it with another cable to secure my gear if needed.

Less than $10.

Cable lock.
IMO this is the best option. Cable is long enough to also go through the sleeve of your jacket to secure it along with the helmet. Cable retracts into body so compact, very light and no key required. No high security needed just a simple lock to protect a grab and run while you're inside a restaurant eating or using the facilities at the gas station. I buy mine on Ebay, very cheap but have held up very well. My oldest is going on 3 years of service without issue.

Once link has expired just search Ebay for "Retractable Bicycle Combination Cable Lock " You'll get dozens of matches for less than $5 each.

Helmet Guardian Premium Helmet Security Lock

I have owned and used this product for a few years on a couple of bikes (DL650 and S10).

PRO
Holds 2 helmets
Easy to lock
Easy to mount on bike
Looks good
Good quality
Heavy Duty

CON
With a helmet locked you cannot move the bike. (Helmet sits against rear tire)
Plastic handle on key broke after a few months
Cost is high
latches if left unlocked produce a rattle that can be heard at lot speed
Corrosion (In florida near the ocean) is a concern for the locks. I spray them a couple times a year)
Heavy (Used locktite on the license plate screws)

OVERALL
Would buy again.
Use it all the time and most days use it a few times to lock the helmets

Key or Combination? I have maybe 25 of these cable locks... I work part time at a gun shop. They work great and they are cheap but I prefer to carry one less key. That is why I use the HelmetLok combination lock. They are both good ideas.

THIS is the shizzit of cable locks. First off - No key, which is great when you go off hiking or to the beach.

It's MUCH more solid than the retractible bicycle locks. Some of those you can feel the numbers align and figure out how to open, others have such thin cable you can cut them pretty easily.

And a biggie is that the length of the cable on this one can be adjusted by sliding it through before locking. That means that if your helmet is locked to the handlebars, the length of the cable won't let it fall to the ground. Or it's long enough to get through the helmet, jacket sleeve, pants leg, and even boots if they have a hole to get the cable through.

I have one of these:

I got it many years ago when I was a registered product tester, and was sent one to review. Although it is keyed (and I haven't seen a combo version), I have used it to lock my helmet to the bike on a few occasions. Mostly here in Phoenix though, I tend to keep my helmet with me, especially in the warmer months.

There's a dude on adv-rider selling a set of hooks for putting under the seat. Lift the seat place the helmet(s) on the hook(s) and reattach the seat.
Works quite well for about 10 bucks.
I'll get the contact if you're interested.

By chance, do you have the link? I did a search for helmet lock and got zero.

If you're wearing a fullface helmet as most are, I would use a cable run through the chin guard. If attached to a regular helmet lock they will get the old trusty pocket knife out, cut the strap and be gone in 5 seconds.

Yes off course. Sorry for the slow answer. Just saw your post now.

https://pnwtenere.com/2014/08/31/review-helmet-hook/ There is a mail you can contact.

In the mean time I actually used the hook ... And it doesn't work with my type of helmet(s). I think it is constructed to be used with a double-D-type of helmet. My Schubert helmet is with a click-strap, and the strap is not long enough, which makes the hook unusable ... But if you have a helmet with Double-D strap it works fine.
