After owning "lots" of bikes I finally ended up with a '14 ES. It is a very nice bike. Drove it from New York to California and back and around the country. Adequate power...comfortable...and most important...VERY dependable.

I do not think you will find a better "all around" bike for the money. I would suggest buying the extra warranty coverage from a Yamaha shop in Alabama. Very cheap insurance. I forget the name but you can find it easily on this site. Very nice people.

I just glanced through the respective owners manuals of the ES/Standard ST's. Re: suspension adjustment, I take it that the ES still has the manual preload on the front forks? I see no mention of front preload adjustment at all?

Not really understanding all the different set-ups I could dial in by hand with the pre-load and dampening or wanting to understand it, brought me to the ES, I set it up soft -3 (Standard 0) and Hard +3 That gives me the softest ride and the standard plus the Hard. I use them all the time. It makes a difference I can feel noticeably. I felt it was a game changer for me because I had no idea how to set up the front end the back seemed pretty easy but the front forks more involved. Then it made sense I might benefit and enjoy hitting it on the fly. Seems like the guys that know the real deal can buy the standard and be very happy. Ride safe great bike!

Trooper, FWIW I had a '14ES and foolishly sold it to try an "exotic" brand. Didn't work out and got a '17ES 2 weeks and 2000 smiling miles ago. Cannot tell you how happy I am to be back on a S10! I don't think there is a lot in the ES-non ES discussion as both work well and there are advantages to each. Mine is an ES, my friend went non ES and we're both loving our bikes. As your in southern WI might want to give Rick at Mukwonago Yamaha a call. His pricing is right and he is straight to deal with. No dealer fees or other bs. Bought both my S10s from him and so have a couple other people I know. He's done right by all of us.

Thanks Donk.. I was down there a couple weeks back looking at their new 2015 red non ES model. Fortunately, it's kind of a buyers market for ST's in our area. Hope your part of town avoided the flooding. My buddies daughter in Burlington wasn't so lucky :(

I'm actually in Spring Prairie just a Burlington mailing address. Got hit with a lot of rain but nothing like a few miles south in Burlington proper, but thanks for asking. Those poor folks got hammered, record flood levels.

I would think you could get a heck of a deal on a '15 leftover! Let me know when you buy one, we'll have to go for a ride.

I'm iterested in your transition from ST1300 to Super Tenere.
The ST1300 is on my list of potential bikes as I'm looking for more two-up comfort than on my Triumph Tiger.

Do you ride your Super Tenere two-up? If you do, how do you find it as a two-up bike?

'06 would be a Tiger 1050. I had one, great bike but the S10 is SO much more! Better low end power, much more comfortable, much better wind protection(actually smooth airflow!) great luggage capacity plus shaft and cruise! You would be in love with the S10!

With three things, my other half likes the Tenere more than anything else she's been on. The three are the top case for a backrest, her little AirHawk pad if we are out for an hour or more, and I made a set of spacers from scrap nylon to raise the front of her seat to flatten it.

The forward spacer (left one shown) is under the front of the rear seat and the bolts go through it. The spacer with the pockets routed out goes beneath the rubber seat pads. If you undo the two bolts holding the rear seat and look at the bottom, this will all make sense.

The pillion seat angle mod is very interesting as my Tiger had a horrible pillion seat. I bought a kit from Seat Concepts that made a world of difference for my lady.

We rode an '09 GSA yesterday and were really impressed.
Wind protection was better than I expected.
The bars are really wide, much wider than my Tiger
The ability to adjust the suspension on the fly was brilliant.

But I have this nagging reliability concern with the Beemer. My Tiger has been stone cold reliable. I want the same from my next bike.

The Tenere ergonomics are close to the last generation BMW GS. The current GSA feels a lot bigger because they stretched out the pegs and make you lean forward more.

You will find a lot of current and ex owners of the ST1300 here. I had one for a number of years, and what a great bike. Smoooooth as silk, and deceptively fast. But really depending on what you want to do, a bit outdated. Cruise control, if you want ES suspension, plug and play heated grips, not worrying what kind of road is in front of you. And I find the the two pretty close as far as comfort on a long ride. Did a lot of two up, and interestingly my now ex, liked the S10 better.

And the S10 will not even complain if you want to bring the kitchen sink......

Tiger 955i actually so the older style. The 1050s started in 07 however the 955 shares a lot of engine parts.

My Tiger is great for one but quite lacking for two. The suspension is not at all modern; no fork preload or anything else, rear has preload and rebound adjustments.
