Have been lurking here since August which is when I purchased the S10 in black. Who am I and why am I here? Started riding 30+ years ago and have escalated time in the saddle as children are now leaving the nest. Was on 82 BMW R100RS but the need for more upright seating and two up comfort was showing up after hours of riding. Also found myself on gravel roads and paths exploring in MN, WI, IA, and MI. Which lead to the purchase of a 2008 Buell Ulysses XT. Which was great fun and comfortable for a while. This past summer it became downright painful to ride over an hour at a time. It developed a vibration at highway speeds that made it no fun for us. Hundreds of dollars’ worth of parts and hours wrenching was not fixing it. And after a week long ride (2500+ miles on the thing) I gave up. Off to the dealership to look at the BMW GS line of motorcycles as all the people we met riding loaded with camping gear for two where on these machines. Had to be a reason for it and the other option was HD touring machines or Goldwing’s pulling trailers. I’m not ready for that yet. So off to the Dealership to check out option$ and model$ (all the time wondering if the last child would be willing to settle for a state college for higher learning) and then the salesmen pulls this Black 2012 Yamaha Super Tenere that they just got in and setup. Looking the thing over and finding it has all the things I was looking at on the GS. With price and features moving it to top of the list fast. Next they asked if I want to take it for a ride. Hour later I was signing paper and move money around to make it mine. This was all without the required spouse pleading and explaining (begging). She found about when I asked her drive me to the dealership to pick it up. Talk about mixed feelings, excitement with the new motorcycle and fear for the talk we’ll be having later. Since that afternoon we have rolled up many miles and love the thing. Comfortable day long rides and the nannies make it fun to drive. Sadly I still have the 82 BMW and Buell 2008 and after the talk I will be selling them this summer. It was decided (hers not mine) I was to be a one motorcycle man. So looking forward to getting panniers on and loaded next summer.
