If you can't tell from my name I am new to adventure motorcycles. I just sold my 2012 Triumph Bonneville T100 after coming back from a long ride in the mountains of central West Virginia. Most of my friends have adventure type bikes and had a great time exploring trails that I wouldn't dare take the Bonnie on. Although I had a great time in the twisties on the Bonnie, I feel like I missed out on some awesome off-road adventures. So, I decided it was time to step up and make a change. I pick up my new 2013 Tenere from Cycle Enterprises in West Bloomfield NY tomorrow after work. I am really looking forward to taking longer trips with this bike and exploring beyond the paved roads.

Welcome. I hope you enjoy your new bike as much as I enjoy mine. It does everything I want.

I have put over 300 miles on the new bike since picking it up and thought I would share my first ride impressions. I initially had some issue with the ergonomics and found the seat to have a strange forward tilt to it causing me to lean on the bars a bit and my hands were starting to hurt after an hour or so. I think I fixed that by modifying the seat bumpers so I will need more time to see if that addressed the issue. The engine is very different from what I had (Triumph T100). I would call the engine character almost agricultural, very tractor like. It has a ton of torque and can pull away in 6th gear like a train. I used to have to downshift to make any sort of passing move before, but this thing will just pull hard when you roll on the throttle even in top gear. That was the most surprising part. I still have to get used to the jackhammer feel of this engine under throttle roll on. People ask me if I find it annoying, I say no I find it entertaining. I am waiting for my dealer to call and let me know when my free accessories from Yamaha are in so I can begin adding those and report back what I think of those as well.

Picked up my free accessories tonight. The engine guards look like they will be fun to put together. Can't wait to spend some quality time in the garage this weekend and install this stuff.
