Quick "Howdy" from western NC.

Obviously, new to forum--I typically try to read a lot, and say a little. No order yet, but very interested.
Thanks everyone, and look forward to next spring when y'all start giving first hand accounts.

Be safe!!

Bill

Welcome aboard Bill, I'm on the other side of the state from you. What bike do you ride now?

Moto Guzzi Norge now.
Only 1 1/2 years, so only 20000 miles. Bike has been great, but with such a sparse dealer network, I wonder about longer trips--which I want to get into.
Thanks..

AWSOME bike!! I love Guzzis, looked VERY hard at a Stelvio. If they had a larger dealer network I would be on a Stelvio now, but a Yamaha dealer is about 3 minutes from where I work. Gotta Tenere on order. Do you ever ride to the coast?

Thanks, guys for the replies.

K woo---haven't ridden to the coast yet. I have done a few IBA SS 1000's, but they have been out-and-back home 1 day trips.
I have a Guzzi dealer nearby. After buying the Norge, and researching a bit, it hit me about the tiny dealer network. Also, parts availability is a big concern. Long story short, I poked a hole in my oil pan. :-[ Took almost three weeks to get the pan and gaskets. Obviously, that is not tolerable -- especially if I had been on the road away from home.

I really like the Stelvio also--especially with an upgraded model coming. [over 8 gallons of fuel for one thing] But the same exact issues apply.

All that said, my Norge has performed well in the short 1 1/2 years [20000 miles] I have had it.

Thanks again for the replies. The S10 is definitely on my short list. I will be seriously looking for something iin about spring, 2012.

Bill

Bill, goodluck in your search for the Super Tenere. I think the Guzzi's Stelvio looks neat, and think it may be better than a BMW, but i still have to think the Japanese reliability is up there along with dealer support.

As a former V11 LeMans owner, may I ask how you poked a hole in your oil pan?

And yes, the tiny -sometimes revolving door- dealer network can be a concern, but I always kept a few choice numbers stored in the phone just in case. Never had an issue getting the usual wear & tear items in a reasonable amount of time, usually the same amount to get items from the dealer for the Japanese bikes in the stable.

Boy, that's a loaded question. BMW sells so many more bikes, so even if 1% have had an issue with grenading final drives, that's hundreds - if not thousands - more bikes than Guzzi sells in a year. But I never heard "Did your final shit itself yet" at any of the Guzzi gatherings I made. And Guzzi owners do not seem bashful about putting the miles on their bikes.

How's that for politically correct?

I do think the Guzzi final drive is more robust than the BMW.
