Good day to everyone, I have been following your discussions for some time...or as my teenage daugters say "creeping" seeing what is the latest topics discussed. Because of you fine folks I will be shortly buying a Super Tenere ( YAY). Currently I have a Yamaha VMAX 1995 ( currently for sale) and when that is sold I see myself buying in the end march April timeframe. MY local dealership in Esquimalt B.C have two... a Blue and a Black one..Drool :p. And I find myself every other day stopping by to sit and ponder. Oh BTW even though I am new to this Forum, I have to say the Blue "Definitely" looks to be able to go faster than the black. However I believe I am magnanimous enough to accept all walks of life >;-)
All Joking aside, I find everyone contribution very valuable and was the deciding factor from over going over to the BMW side... don't get me wrong they are fine bikes to ride but if my 1995 VMAX with 99grand worth of KMs on it has any indication of reliabality the smart choice to me is Yamaha.... When I do make the Bike purchase plunge I will of course share everything I have experienced.
My best regards to you all.... and look forward to the day of owning one
Dan

Dan,

Welcome to the asylum! I think that you will find all the info you seek and more here. That's quite a paradigm sift going from a VMax to a Tenere. I had an 05 ST1300 before the Tenere. It is what I was hoping for and so far I am quite pleased. It is lighter and more flickable than the ST1300. I was looking for a bike with more upright ergonomics and the Tenere provides what I wanted. I am surprised at how well it handles the twisties given the long travel suspension. But Yamaha has sorted out the suspension settings very well IMMHO. But maybe it is that I am close to the "average" American that the Japanese OEMs use to bSe their settings on. Or just that I am not that attuned to the nuances of suspension adjustments.

Anyway, not having spent any meaningful, time on a VMax I cannot give you any insight into the pluses or minuses of your decision. I would suggest that you post any questions that arise. I am certain that you will get meaningful input for your deliberations.

Welcome on, Rubberbaby. Congrats on your soon to be Super Tenere. When you get your new bike, you should name him "Bumper", then you could call him the Rubber .... never mind. Welcome again, and we look forward to your input and evaluations once you have a few kms on the new bike.

Oh, and pay no attention to Colorider. He's always got the "blues". R ::022:: ::012:: ::012:: ::015::

Welcome aboard Dan. Soon you will have more fun riding the Super Tenere. Hide your wallet because the Super Tenere want to use it.

Dan, Welcome and when you get the new steed you will have to let us know. There are three blue ones in Victoria including mine that I know of. Hope to see you on the road. ::008::

Better get the Black one if you want to stand out in the crowd. All the other ones on VI are blue. 5 of them I think. Saw the Black one at Action the other day looks very nice.

Hey Dan,

Good work on the Blue. Got my smokin' hot Blue Tenere in July and still have my VMax. I will never, ever, ever part with my Max. Nothing really compares to a Max.

Anyhow, my wife has a software company in Victoria so we are out there quite a bit [still living in Calgary] so we can connect.

Cheers,

CammyB'hammy

Congrats on the new bike. I'm hoping to ride out to Vancouver Island this summer, so I'll have to keep my eye out for blue Tenere's.
