New member here. Been salivating over the S10 for the past year and finally dumped my BMW for one when my local dealer offered me a deal on 12' closeout that I couldn't pass up ($11,600). After putting down 400 miles and still in the break in phase, I have to say that this bike is "The Bomb". Handling on and off the tarmac is the best I've ever experienced on a bike in this class. Looking forward to doing some backroad discovery rides in he northwest in 2013. Love this forum.
Previous bikes:
2004 BMW R1150RT
2005 BMW R1150GS Adventure
2008 Kawasaki Concourse 14
2007 Suzuki Vstrom 1000
1998 Honda VFR
Yeah I know....I'm a bike whore ;D

Congrats on the new ride nwryder and a great deal too. This bike betters with age also. Let us know how you do on the backroad discovery rides. Those things have my eye and supposedly several more in the works. What a great job those guys at touratech have putting routes together camping making a movie. Sounds like a sweet gig.

Yeah, mahn! Congrats. Which dealer? I am thinking of ranking the ones in the WA area. I shopped around quite a bit and got a little weary of the "dealer experience". Some are very distinctly different from others!

Unbelievably it was at "Pro Caliber Yamaha" in Longview. Like you, I'm typically weary of dealers. Even so, I always give the home town dealer first shot at my business. In past purchases, they would never offer to beat the competitor's price but this time they surprised me. Thanks again.

Did they let you test ride it? I've purchased a few bikes fro Pro-Caliber in Vancouver and not been disappointing, except for the no test policy.

Congrats on the new scoot! Still waiting for mine...

Negative on the test ride. As for keeping tabs on local gatherings...I started asking around over at the Adventure Rider Forum about putting together a WABCDR ride this summer. Looking to go with a group who has experience with the route. Also looking forward to checking in on any other local stuff as well.

NW Ryder,

As for the WABDR, I did sections of it this past summer. If you have little to no dirt experience, I would only do the By-pass part of Section 2. If you look closely, the first few miles off of Rt 410 heading north working on over towards wenas Rd. is an absolute BITCH!!! I couldn't of imagined having to go down hill on this section if I were coming from North going south. Once you get to the top of the hill just off of Rt 410 is fine as you make your way towards Wenas. It is an uphill at 15-25 degree angle with softball-melon size rocks all throughout the path for 1/2 mile or so. Someone supposedly on BMW GS's tipped over and broke valve cover on this section. Just word of caution.
But if you can ride this, than all good.

I plan to do a section or two of the WABDR next summer. I hear that Section 3 would be a good one to start on (between I-90 and Hwy 2). It is about 60 miles. I also hear that it is easier the further north you go. Section 2 is the most difficult (but scenic). Maybe we can get a group together once the rain and snow are gone!

Salmon and others: Doing section 3 could almost be doable as a day trip honestly, just have to keep moving anything at least 15mph to do it in a day including back to Seattle. It is very pretty up there, well at least until the fire came through. There will surely be mud before 4th of July.

HoebSTer,

Does the detour cause you to miss out on all of section 2? or just a small portion of it? Section 3 sounds like a nice piece as well. I'm okay in the dirt but then again, I don't want to totally trash my new bike either. I'm willing to buy some big blocks just for the ride.

Let's talk about doing this as we get closer to the "Big Wet" being over ... maybe around May or June for a July or August weekend. ::012::
