I am really digging the red but man, how long does Yamaha usually take to "release" a bike to be shipped to a dealer? Been a week and a half since I ordered it and it has not shipped yet. Going crazy waiting!

I bought my 2014 from the Yamaha dealer in Cambridge,MD. The bike was in stock at the Yamaha warehouse but not at the dealer. The dealer picked it up the next day and I had it. There was no release issue from the warehouse that I knew about. I wonder what is the hold up on your bike.

That is very good advice! I am and will be intimidated by this first step into a Real Bike so I am definitely going to take it very easy and build my skill and confidence very gradually. I wish I knew of an advanced riders course or something! I did the basic motorcycle safety course way back and would like to learn more from experts. Perhaps simply riding with more experienced and skilled riders and picking stuff up along the way is what most folks do.

Ryan:

That is interesting. I will call them when the shop opens up on Tuesday and see what's up. They said it would take 3 to 7 days to ship once it was released. Honestly, with all the damn salt on the roads, I am grateful for the delay in picking it up but now spring has arrived and the roads will be fine going forward. Hopefully will pick it up next Saturday.

Welcome from nearby Northern Virginia. I ride your area a lot. Heading out Sandy Hook Road is pretty much my default ride when I'm short on time and need a fix. Some good stuff back there.

Whenever you get your bike plan to ride it over to Romney in May: http://www.yamahasupertenere.com/index.php?topic=14159.0

magdump, a parking lot not being used is a great place to practice... after owning this bike for two years I still on occasion go to the lot to practice, turns, braking, u-turns ( this is a big one) when you can do them with out freaking out you are on your way.... one more thing ,motor cycle skills tend to rust, so a little parking lot time is a great place to knock it off...
