Thought i'd do an intro since lurking here a little over a year. I've alwsys had motorcycles, used to race motocross many moons ago, 51 now, so the wreckless full throttle 2 stroke days are over lol. I'd been thinking of all the places a big adventure bike could take me, especially having a mostly offroad background, but never got too excited about the bmws or regular enduros, with family, i decided to let it slide. Yamaha's introduction of the S10 assured me of reliability and offroad ruggedness i would expect without all the cost and maintenance i'd read of the bmws. Having always had Yamahas, YZs, FZs, etc. Im confident with them, so i decided this was exactly what i was looking for and started watching about the time of joining here. Just bought one about 4mo ago, so im in the process of setting it up now. I come from an automotive and race car fabricating background, so i'll be building everything myself. Will be posting up build pics as im doing them. Ive learned a lot by lurking, so hoping to start offering some ideas and things back asap. Looking forward to hopefully meeting some people in my area or close , that have similar bikes and interests for some rides and/or travel. Thanks, Brian

Welcome, Brian!

I just turned 52 and I'm heading in the same direction as you. Riding like a bat out of hell doesn't interest me anymore.....nor can my body take it, especially off road. You've made a great decision to pursue the Super Tenere over a certain European brand..

Welcome to the forum, Tortured. I am on my second Super Tenere, having started with one of the pre order 2012's and am now on a white 2014 ES that I absolutely love. I am an hour south of you in Hillsboro and get to Spf quite often and am a member of the Springfield Milers BMW club. I don't have a BMW, but they don't care, just a bunch of fun folks. I am retired and work part time at Niehaus Cycles in Litchfield. Right now I am preparing a 2015 ES for a forum member that totalled his 2012. He also likes the white, so we are having it painted and set up to his preferences.

Let me know if you come down this way and we can hook up for a visit.

Im in Springfield. Unfortunately.
Some nice gravel in the NW corner of the state as well as the driftless region of WI.
Check that other site (ADV) for some nice gpx files of "dirty" rides that are nice on the S10.

My problem is i am still interested in riding like that, lol, my head and wrist still think im 20, but i feel 80 and would probably heal like it too. Soon to be 52 also. Havent been down in a long time but all the broken bones and whatnot are not something i want to go thru again.

Thanks to everyone that replied.

Fredz43 ,
I went to Neihaus a couple of times about a month or 5 weeks ago, the morn i was getting on the highway from right by the Rt66 Hotel, a white S10 crossed right in front of me coming in off 55 headed north. So that might have been you. I dont think there's any S10s in town besides the guy who owns the local Yam shop, his is blue. Out of everything he could ride, he rides a ST everyday. I'll def look you up or try to see when youre there as a friend wants to go down there to get a couple Gwing items.

Thanks again to everyone welcoming.

Yeah, that could have been me. My white 14 ES has the black Euro decals on it, probably the only one around like that. Let me know ahead of time if you can and I'll meet you at Niehaus.
