Hey all, I just got myself a 2013 ST, been drooling over this bike since it came out and finally got one, its a grey with 4000 miles on her, it already has the two brothers exhaust and damn does this thing sound mean, only problem is after an hour of riding I was showing my brother the bike and I noticed oil running down the forks, yep the forks seals are bad and they went bad an hour after I got the bike, took it back to the dealer and showed him, he said it wasnt leaking when it left, I said that wasnt the point, its been an hour so we agreed to disagree and he offered to pay half the bill to get her fixed,I am hoping this isnt a sign of things to come, she is parked til the parts get in  I coming from a 2008 versys, I loved that little bike but more often then not I was wanting for 1. better brakes 2. more power 3. more long distance comfort.

I thought the one-year warranty was transferable. Seems like fork seals at 4000 miles would not be considered normal wear?

How does a new owner go about transferring the original warranty if it's been less than one year?

Welcome and congrats on the bike. Once the seals are repaired, I'm sure that you will enjoy the bike.

Yes congrats on the bike. The seal may be OK just some grit in it. I have to clean mine occasionally. Buy a 5 dollar Seal Mate slip the seal protector down then work the seal mate between the tube and seal slide it all the way around and pull out. Small pieces of grit, mud, dirt can cause problems. Hope it's just a dirty seal for you and an easy fix.

Welcome on, chwhnd from Idaho. That's a bummer. I'm thinking the dealer was being a bit of a dipstick on this one. I hope you get it sorted out to your satisfaction. Leaky seals happen. ::004:: to the Forum, and let us know what happens. R. ::022::

::004:: to the forum and congratulations on your purchase! It's too bad you had the fork seal problem right out of the gate, but hopefully once that is sorted out, you will be off to the races.

Cheers,

Bruce

Lol, it was looking like it might but after I should him the photo of the bike a day before I got it and there was definitely an oil ring he then pulled up his picture of the bike and his picture had a much better view of the oil coming out, you should of seen the look on his face, so yea now I am getting it fixed for free ::018::

An update on the bike, installed a pelican on the rear rack and then took her to the dealership so it would be on hand when the seals arrived, my luck is holding true to form, yep they ordered the wrong seals, going to be another week, I wished I had kept all my tools, could of ordered the seals myself and installed them a couple times over, running out of youtube videos on the s10 to watch ::001::

Congrats on the bike, and like others have said, you'll have a blast once this setback is over.

But, maybe take a closer look at the front end once you get it back. BOTH fork seals leaking on a bike with 4000 miles is a bit odd. Unless it just truly did have that much dirt in there, which I guess is possible.

That was on my mind also, everyone is rather shocked that a bike with so few miles would be marking its territory like a 20 year old harley, ::025::

I looked at your bike when it was parked on the lot at the bottom of 21st street.
I saw a Versys there the other day...
Send me a PM - I am across the river with the same year/color.

Hey all, well crossing fingers that today will be the end of of issues with s10, I am thinking the issues have more to do with the previous owner and to that end I do plan on ordering fork socks and protectors so this bs doesnt happen again,2 weeks and have yet to put more then an hour into getting to know her, so jacked to be finally able to get some seat time ::015::

She is home, I had to snag the forks yesterday and take them to a friends place to press the seals in, toook em back to the dealership I got the bike from and 2 hours later she was done, I will recommend the dealership I bought the bike from, the only downside was there initial response to the problem, after that they ponied up and tried there dambist to get it done, Hells Canyon Harley. The place I wouldn't piss on if it was on fire is Rays Cycle, poor service, even worse additude, all that aside its time for the bike and I to bond, I will post pics of that tonight, have a great day all .. ::003::
