Hi, I picked up my 2011 ST yesterday after trading in my Explorer 1200. Being Enhlish it pains me to say it but the Yam is a much better bike!

Welcome,

I am surprised how many switch from the Triumph to the Yamaha.

A mate of mine has the Triumph and I quite like it, just feels more suited to faster smoother roads to me, where the S10 is better on slower and bumpier roads, I ruled out the Triumph as at the time I bought my S10 the Triumph was brand new (some concerns over Triumphs first shaft bike) and nobody was doing deals so the Yamaha was far cheaper...

....my mate bought his because at the time he could get a new Triumph for less than the cost of a ex demo S10.

His has since had a new Final Drive, New Cylinder head and new engine management system (all within 5,000 miles / 2 years) I am approaching double that age and four times the mileage with no issues (apart from a couple of hard starts and a some tarnished spokes) and feeling quite re-assured I made the right choice.

I test rode the Triumph before I tried the S10 and although I quite liked that triple sound, something about it just didn't do it for me. I had sat on Nick Sanders S10 a year or so before at an 'evening with' event at a local Yam dealers and I think that sowed the seed. So when I tested the S10 I was half sold on it already. I have had it now for about 3 months and 5000 miles and I am just starting to really get it ! At first the motor felt a bit agricultural, but then I was coming from an XJR super smooth four so the change was always going to take a while to get used to. I also had a problem with the stock bars giving me neck/shoulder pain but that was cured by changing to bars with less sweep back. Now all i need to do is get the seat re sculpted to my liking and a better end can to give it a bit more of a bark and I will be sorted. Like others it seems, the more I ride the S10 the more I enjoy it. And it's not yet another GS !!! It's also great that so far anywhere I go bike related or otherwise it is usually the only S10 around, not that I'm averse to meeting fellow owners ! I went to an open day at a BMW dealer with a mate who rides a GS. Mine was the only non Beemer 'adventure' bike I could see, let alone S10, I felt like the SAS venturing behind enemy lines :D

Thanks for the warm welcomes! There is nothing that would persuade me to change the S10 back to an Explorer, it is by far the superior bike :)

I have had a S10 for just under a month, I traded a XJR1300 in for it and thought the engine was a little lack lustre in comparison. However I tend to ride the S10 much faster than the XJR without realizing it. Ergonomics of course are far more comfortable.

::004:: from Scotland. I was considering the Triumph, but I'm glad I went down the S10 route. A friend has had the cylinder head and ECU recalls done, he is not a happy chappy.
