Hello. My name is Albert H. and I log on as AH.
This is my first post to this form, so . . . an introduction is required.
I have been riding bikes for 55 years, and have several vintage bikes. My current highway bike is a 2006 BMW R1200GSA. Before that I had a 1985 BMW R80 GS. I rode it till it wore out, and it never let me down.
Not so the R1200. It has left me stranded twice. The last time was last year, in the middle of Saskatchewan. Yes I am a Canadian, and I live in Edmonton Alberta. Both times it was a failure of the final drive. This is a known problem for 2006 to 2010 R1200 motorcycles. BMW refuses to recognize there is a problem. That final drive was taken apart 3 times, and last year I replaced it completely. The bike has 45k miles on it. Bring Money in a Wheelbarrow is the BMW motto. Or just call it a Big Money Wagon.
Don't misunderstand. The bike handles great, carries everything I want, and goes anywhere a big bike can. It sits right for my 6 foot frame, and my spouse likes being on the back. But I have lost confidence in the bikes reliability, and in the BMW dealer network.
So that is why I am here. I am hoping the Tenere might be a replacement for my beemer. Also I need to add, that I pull a Mini Mate trailer for camping trips. Now I know what you are thinking. That is why the final drive failed. I don't buy it. The mini mate has a tongue weight of 35 lbs and is less than 300 lbs loaded. And I am not an aggressive rider.
I love to ride, but I need to have confidence in the machine I am on. Tenere anyone?
Albert
