ckbikelove, welcome!

I too had the same decision last year. Although I cannot give a first hand comparison between the '13 and '14 I can say my position was the same as yours. My decision was to buy the '13 and use the $4k saved to add the desired accessories, gear, and if any money was left, farkle, as desired.

I hope that you are able to find something you like, whether used or new, and is within your budget.

Chris, so far I have no regrets.

By the way, I must apologize as I did not initially notice your location in your profile......neighbor. :D

Welcome Chris , Watch California bikes as they are different from the rest of the US because of emissions, still a great bike . Myself being a mechanic I had to get the 2 gen because of the engine changes . All the s10's are good its just what fit's you and your pocketbook . Good luck !!

Have to agree there. I remember the good old days when we could see the air that we had to breath. :D

Having lived in SoCal, I figured there'd be emissions restrictions. What are they, how do they affect performance, and how do you overcome them?

Also...what are the engine differences between Gen 1 and Gen 2?

Went to the site, and noticed their "Free Tires For Life" promotion. As long as you don't mind always going there for maintenance, seems like a good deal if you're a long term owner!
If you don't mind tires similar to stock that free tire offer could be a shock to their system with Tenere riders. I go through a lot of tires. I'm sure they are safe making that offer on almost every other style of bike that see 1 or 2K miles tops per year.

::004:: from Scotland. I'm happy with my 2011 bike, which has had the MC Cruise electric servo cruise control unit installed.
