I went for the Mitas Dakars, not easy to find here so I ordered. Paid US $300 for the set then another US $40 to mount. I'll write a quick review in another thread since this one is about a compare of the K60's which I never owned. How long a tire lasts is not the most important thing to me, which I keep reading is the + of the k60, though I hate tires that wear in 3000 miles like the 250 rear on my Victory (that's $1 per MM!).
wow wee! $300 USD for the set? I figured with the shite CDN dollar you guys would get better pricing.

Depending on how much you like your throttle and using it on gravel, will dictate how much tire you will use. I've been averaging 8 thou km on my mitas (regardless of dakar or 3 ply). If memory serves, I"m on my 3rd or 4th rear.

Did my first commute on brand new Mitas E07 Dakars. Yesterday I did short shake-down ride on surface streets to make sure the bike was in order after changing tires and brakes. All was good, less vibey than expected . By way of comparison - less vibes than K60s, more vibes than Conti Trail Attack 2. No surprises there.

The commute is very routine, so good grounds for comparison. Most of the route is rain-grooved highway. The brand new Dakars were decidedly wiggly. Not as bad as riding down a sand wash, but reminiscent. Tire pressures were 33 psi front and 36 psi rear, unladen. Expect these tires to wear in after a few hundred miles and some of that floatly feeling to go away. At least I hope so. I have half-worn D606 in my WR250R and half-worn MT 21 on my DR650, both of which ride steadier on the same stretch of highway. So we'll chalk it up to the tires being brand new and maybe not yet having found the ideal air pressures.

On your way to everywhere, , Iowa
Just removed the rear Mitas E-07 Dakar with 15,175 miles on it.
It went to Alaska on the chip seal roads , Dempster, Canol roads, Dalton, Telegraph Creek and a lot more abuse.
Great tire and so far the only tire I like better is that Shinko 805 but it doesn't last as long.

I'm baffled how you guys get that kind of wear out of the mitas. My rear E-07 will be bald at the center with zero actual knobs at 8000km.
Oddly enough, my front is damn near shot at the same mileage, cupping, but I'll keep it on for another half season, to strech to 12km.
My tire pressure is as per the guys at mx1, want to say 35/32 psi front/rear
I ride 40% of the time on gravel.
maybe it's my wrist.

Wrist makes all the difference. The set of E07s my wife took on our trip out west (nearly all pavement) have around 6K miles on them and they are still great looking with a ton of life left. My E07s with about 4K are more worn than her tires. I spend a fair amount of time in a power slide and spinning that back wheel as often as I can.

Still, the E07 is hands down the best tire I've ever used...period. Both from a do it all and a longevity standpoint, I'm amazed at how great this tire is. I am so impressed.

Have you tried the K60 on your S10? I am trying to decide between these two tires for my next change.

My E07's have about 7K miles now the rear looks roughly 50% worn. It run 38 front and 40 rear most of the time.

They worked great at the Rally on both blacktop and dirt.

If you go back in the threads you will see that the K60 was the tire to have, till the Mitas became available and people went to those.

I went through 3 sets of K60s on the Tenere. Since I have two Teneres I could do some real testing with them. I'd ride the same roads on the exact same line (I could always tell since I leave a breadcrumb behind most of the time) with both bikes. I found the Anakee IIs hooked up far better than a K60 in almost any straight line testing I did. That big giant stripe down the middle just killed any real traction. I strength of the K60 was in a corning power slide. They did a good job not swinging out. I never did any mud testing back to back, but I learned to have very little faith in the K60 for anything off pavement in a straight line. On dry pavement, I found them to be an excellent road tire and I could really push them in the twisties as hard as I wanted with no fear. Terrific dry pavement tire.

The E07 is equal to the power slide grip of the K60 and far superior in straight line traction. I haven't worn one out yet, but based on what I'm seeing I anticipate it will out live the K60 life of around 6K I used to get on a rear tire. K60 front was a very long lasting tire and no real complaints on that one.

Agreed. My TC only stays on on cold days. So when I"m on gravel, the rear travels 2x the speed of the front ::015::...so maybe I have 14km on the rear instead of 7 or 8 :D

As a rule of thumb the k60s are a harder compound tire, and will last longer. They are way worse in the rain, and once the rear starts squaring up, there's not much to stop it.
The mitas squares up too, but with some corner work, they have a tendency to round off easier.

Oh, and the k60s are an absolute pita to mount vs the mitas. The hardness doesn't help

Yes, Sails2xxs rode with me once then suggested my tire was doing the same number of revolutions as those high mileage guys. It actually made sense.

Yes, I see that. I was smitten with the high mileage guys were getting on the K60s. It sounds like the Mitas are less durable than the K60. However, I am also concerned by some of the comments regarding wet weather issues with that tire. Hmmmmm...

I will add to the wet weather issue with the K60's. Slick, so much so that even with a fair amount of tread left, for a trip this last summer I put on Shinko 705's and very glad I did with the rain I went through. Also as previously mentioned, the K60's square off about halfway through their life. My next tire's are going to be the E07's.

I had the same experience with the rear K60, wet it was an uneasy feel especially with a load I got caught up in rain heading up 550 from Durango.
I never got a warm and fuzzy with the K60 after it started to square off as it always felt snotty on dry pavement and was not a good straight tracking dirt tire due to that solid center strip.
I pulled it at around 5.5k (yes it was at half life for me) I wanted to feel relaxed and swapped it for a 705 Shinko.
I have stated this before, I would rather have traction over miles any day.
I may try the Mitas some day.

This is really simple. the +/- of both

-K60's + Stupid high mileage - Shit in the wet, and an utter bitch to mount
-Mitas + If you value your life and riding enjoyment -Not so stellar mileage (all dependent on right wrist and PSI)

I lost track which rear E07 I'm on now. That said, I have two brand new rears on the shelf, and a basically new one on my bike. So that's the tire I'm sticking with.

If you run the tire at low pressures (28 psi, as I was advised by the Mitas rep in Vancouver ::009::), like I did for a good long while,
they have a tendency to wear out fast (8xxx km the last three or four rears). I'm sure my heavy wrist didn't help.
I'm now experimenting with 32 psi front, and 40 rear on all surfaces, and will report back.

not sure what you mean about the first 100 miles on the front. All tires come coated. I don't go balls to the wall until I scrub the front and rear.

Now go out and get the tires.

Has anyone tried a E07 dakar rear with a k60 front? Bad Idea???? My k60's have approx 10k on them and the rear is almost done but the front looks really good. I like the look and reviews of the E-07 dakar but hate the idea of pulling a front tire that doesn't even look worn.
