Thanks! Do you air down for off road?
Only in Colorado, when we rode Cinnamon Pass. Other than that, the hard packed desert roads I ride here in Arizona don't usually require it. I have yet to find a really sandy section however, which would have me airing down.

I ran K-60s on my 2012 - 33 psi front, 42/43 psi rear, and consistently got at least 22K miles out of a set (and one set just shy of 30K miles), with a substantial amount of commuting and highway mileage. The rear did tend to square off around the 10K mark, and then would seem to stop wearing appreciably for the next 8k miles or so.

That is amazing mileage. Given that history, I would be reluctant to change. Do you ride off-road at all?

I noticed after 900 miles I'm down 2mm on the rear tread. For you higher mileage guys, does that sound like the wear you were seeing?

Chris's mileage is like very few others. In the WORLD!

I suspect he has fewer starts-stops per mile than 99.999% of all motorcyclists. He's the 2-wheel trucker amongst us.

My 2012 was off-road at least one or two days a month - nothing like the kind of time some of the other guys here like Dirt Dad get, but that was more due to lack of time than preference. I love playing off road.

Snake - I've slowed down a fair bit since getting married last November. I still have the 120 mile/day commute, but the 2 day, 2k+ weekend trips are a thing of the past. I love being on the bike, but spending time with my wife beats the bike every time. ;D
This past weekend Lee went on her first ride out of the neighborhood with me - we kept it simple and did a ride to eat and played on a few backroads - just 40 miles - she had a great time and is starting to look at some riding gear. ::012:: My old Aerostitch fit her pretty well, but with 150k+ miles of road patina and funk, it was a good thing Sunday was a breezy day. :D

Best,

Chris

I hadn't heard. (Or I missed it)

Congratulations!!!
Seriously, I mean it.

I know it seems nice to be able to be the master of your own Kingdom and have 100% autonomy in decision making..........but it AIN'T all it's made out to be. :)
I think life is FAR more rewarding when you throw in a healthy dose of required negotiation in the Kingdom. LOL

And if she'll ride Pillion with you, even if only a small amount........... It's ALL good.

That is simply great news. And your second Tenere is going to last even longer.

::026:: That's great.

Obviously things have changed a lot since that day we sat at the end of Canyon Ridge Road and chatted about life. Really happy for you. ::008::

By the way, if you want to get dirty again it will be less than two weeks until I'm going back to road where you have the title screen and starred in the 2013 off road portion of the Romney video. http://www.yamahasupertenere.com/index.php?topic=6193.msg136249#msg136249

Check with me Friday night if you want to revive your role.

Thanks guys! Looking forward to seeing you again DirtDad, and to finally meeting you Snake! Can't wait to ride with you guys next weekend at Romney.

Lee is coming up in the afternoon on Saturday, and is up for some light road riding on Sunday. I'm totally excited about finally getting the bike muddy on Saturday!!!

DD - UPS is delivering K-60s today.... ;D

Chris

Don't worry about that. If you get stuck with those K60s we'll have plenty of people available to pull you out. ::013::

Looking forward to catching up. Glad you're going to make it.

I was looking at the k60 scout. The available size is •Scout 150/70 B 17 M/C 69T TL (from their website). The 'b' in the tire size apparently is the speed rating, making it rated for us 31 MPH. Glad I checked this because was about to revzilla a set. if 31 mph is the rated safe speed my normal 80+/- can't be good for them.

Coming across this thread I was thinking the Mitas E07, but the Dakar is a good option.
interesting compare here: http://www.mx1canada.com/mitas-e07-dakar-rear-tire-150-70-17-tubeless.html

I think I'd like a 50/50 tire but losing confidence in alternatives to the stock Metz Tour which I think is an 80/20. So confusing. :)

I think it should say 131 mph for the K-60s. At least in my experience it is a great, long-wearing tire.

Best,

Chris

go for the mitas. It will wear faster than the k60, but will have more grip on the wet, and easier to mount. No need to spend the extra cash on the dakar. The reg tire has been good for me

I just managed about 22.5k miles out of my K60's. I was very happy with them and decided to get another set.

I think you only got 15K miles out of the tread and the other 7K out of the carcass. Some people are more picky about the condition of their tires an others. No doubt about how tough the K60s are.

But the wear bars just started showing up about a thousand miles ago! It still had some rubber thickness. I thought it might be thinner, but it wasn't. Tough tires.

I went for the Mitas Dakars, not easy to find here so I ordered. Paid US $300 for the set then another US $40 to mount. I'll write a quick review in another thread since this one is about a compare of the K60's which I never owned. How long a tire lasts is not the most important thing to me, which I keep reading is the + of the k60, though I hate tires that wear in 3000 miles like the 250 rear on my Victory (that's $1 per MM!).
