Here's a few pictures from the little ride I took last month to Oregon and Idaho.
I took off from Dallas to escape the heat and rode to Oregon to join the PNWSTOG for their ride around Mt. Hood. It was a great ride, a big thanks to Glen for organizing it and to Paul for hosting it.
The following Monday, Paul and I rode to Idaho to ride for a few days on the IDBDR. We tried to pick up the route in Pierce, ID but had to detour because a large section of the National Forest was closed due to fires, blocking off a portion of the route.
We rode for about 30 miles trying to loop around the North side of the fire to pick up the route again but had to backtrack to Pierce and take a southerly route around the fire. East of Kooskia, ID., on Hwy 12, we had to stop as a road crew was clearing burning timber from the shoulder of the road that had fallen down from the steep hillside. Looking North across the river, the visible side of the mountain had all of the underbrush burned away.
When we got up on the Lolo Trail, we ran into a Hot Shot crew and a pumper truck fighting some small fires.
Smoke haze pretty much spoiled all of the views during the trip.
We spent the night at Lolo Hot Springs and the next day we got on the Magruder Motorway at Conner, MT. and rode the route down to Elk City, ID.
Found a nice little campground right in town with great hot showers next door to the grocery store and across the street from the cafe.
It got a little cool that night.
The next day we rode down the route to Burgdorf Hot Springs, ID.
Burgdorf Hot Springs is a neat place, a very rustic and soothing hot springs. They have cabins but there is no electricity or water, and they have gasoline but they are very proud of it, $8 a gallon.
The next day we parted company and headed home.
I would like to go back and ride the entire IDBDR next July or August, anyone interested?
