Looks like they are advertised as different but does anybody know why I could not move them from my 2012 to a possible 2014? I didn't think the frame or anything was different.

The difference between the two is if the 2014 is an ES model. As I recall, some of the hardware for the ES is now mounted where it interfered with the mounting of some pannier racks from the Gen 1 model.becoyote said:

Correct... I bought a set of Gen1 H&B frames for my 2014 ES ..... I had to do a fair bit of modifying them to make them fit .....AVGeek said:

There is a difference for the ES model. There's some tricky stuff going on behind the right passenger peg and the mounting of a suspension piece that is also back there. I had to get Caribou to send me some extra pictures of how to mount it. At first, I thought it was going to be impossible. It's not. I don't recall any tricky voodoo going on when I mounted the '12 HB rack.

I know the windscreens are different but are there any other physical differences? I have Yellow body work on my 12 and might want to switch that over too.

Putting gen1 Hepco and Becker qr racks on my 2014 ES involved cutting both bars on the racks, near to the pegs and re-positioning them....the forward mounts were in totally the wrong position .....

The year does matter, and the side carriers are split into two categories: part number 650.4531 00 01 would fit models up until 2013, while part number 650.4540 00 01 would fit the 2014+ models, which does include both the standard and ES models.
