I'm not sure they would do much of anything without being attached at the handlebar ends. Do you have other gadgets on there that preclude attachment?

Will have large bar end weights sticking out.
Only reason I would have hand guards on is for the looks but might look funny in combination with the bar end weights.
Just curious.
Cheers.

The BarkBuster Storm handguards come with bar end weights. Not sure if they would be heavy enough for you.

Red Dust, the Barkbuster Storm handguards would be my suggestion. They use your own bar end weights as they only attach inboard and don't attach to the bar ends - just like you wanted.

They provide the look, if thats what you're after, plus they will provide the same level of wind/rain protection as OEM.

Did order Manic Salamanders one pounder bar end weights with throttle lock so stock guards will not fit but never missed the guards on my DL650.

Just wondered if someone makes them without having to attach them to the end bars?

The stock bar end weights weigh less then 1/2 compared the 17 oz Manic Salamander ones, hopefully they will minimize my dreaded handlebar vibration plus a throttle lock is a nice feature.

Cheers.

For both my Tenere and WR250 R I bought old ATV weights on E-bay- Drilled a larger hole in them-painted them up - bought a long black bolt at the hardware store and mounted them thru and on the outside of the hand protectors. Looks real good, like they belong there. As a added plus, when you drop the bike, the weight gets scratched up, not the plastic hand protector. They really help with vibration also..At highway speed on both bikes you can touch the weights and feel the vibration but you do not feel it in the handgrip.

Thanks for the replies.
Got the bar end weights but can not tell that any of the vibes has gone plus the throttle lock function was not the best but can probably work after some fiddling around.
My next step in this seemingly never ending saga with vibrations and now posture problems (neck/shoulder blade pain, can not ride for awhile) would be the Flexx handlebars and bar risers plus maybe their own anti vibe inserts or Vibranator ones.
I can keep the stock handlebar guards with the Flexx if I use a tapping tool and e2ergo`s mount. This should help a bit if not maybe the ECU flash would be it, at least to minimize the vibes, thought about selling it but no use anymore since too much money been spend already, might as well try to make it suit my "mature" body :-( but confident one day later after muchos $ spend it will be :) days!

Regarding vibration, have you tried any of the vibration absorbing/reducing handgrips?

Foam grips did nothing. Had bikes before that I could "cure" with foam, heavy bar end weights and after market mufflers but this bike is a tough cookie to tame, hopefully one day, soon.

I've just ordered some grip monkeys to minimise vibration so I will be interested how you go. I've never had vibration problems on any bike so this is new to me. My hands are tingling and numb after two hours on the highway

This is a really unusual condition for the Tenere. I'm guessing you guys have been through all the checks by the dealer - tb sync, etc.

Very common with vibes compared to other bikes. Read about numerous owners that have/had them and several changed their bikes which I will be doing if I can not sort it out. My hands sleep often just after a short ride. Will try to ride 2 hours one day but afraid of consequences regarding issues with my hands, even part of my foot fell asleep ones, maybe when the machine pass 50000 miles it will be better.... it is certainly a problem otherwise it would not be many more than me that want/have changed handlebars e.t.c. such a shame since it could be a very a lovely bike in most aspects. Not giving up yet though.

Good luck - having had other bikes with vibration issues, I know what you mean about worrying about consequences to your hands. Very interested in seeing what you find as a resolution!

Red Dust - sorry you're getting the vibes. I had some issues myself for a while - particularly after reading about others with serious issues! Funny that...

Most of us find that it smooths out after a while - how many miles are on your bike? Mine took about 5000 miles before vibes practically disappeared.

To get more options for bars, try this search in google

dcstrom rox moose site:yamahasupertenere.com

That will bring up just about all the existing threads on bars on this site - with mine featuring. Why? Because mine is the "best" solution of course! You'll get everyone else as well though.

I notice you're talking about handguards on another thread - I have barkbusters with this setup, works well. No handlebar weights, and at 40,000 miles, no vibration.

Good luck!

Thanks.
I`m leaning at: Flexx bars 15 degree, maybe 1" risers and if it is possible:Vibranators inserts.

I noticed you traveling South America, would love to go there one day, my Ms is from there.

Take care & ride safe!

Whoa Red Dust. I knew your bike was recent. But 1200 miles?
Yea, that thing is still wound so tight it doesn't remotely resemble what it will eventually be like.

Like others have said, this bike changes quite a bit over the first 4-6K miles.

But with all that said, you are not alone with the complaint about hand pain. There have been a few. I can't remember exactly who it was and if they ever got it sorted, but there was one other gent (a couple of years ago?) that sounded very similar. It was severe and threatened his keeping the bike.

But for most, it is just described as a bike that gets smoother as it settles in.

I'm hoping it might be a less painful vibration if you can get the ergonomics to change for you. In other words, my theory is with a different grip\wrist angle, perhaps the vibration that IS present, will be less toxic. Add to that, as mileage goes up, it lessens too. Would be win win!

You need to give your bike to GrahamD and tell him you don't want to see him back untill he has worn out your oem tires. :)

Good one snakebitten :) but my bike stays in my hands even with the issues, maybe I change my mind, Graham is only a day ride away (maybe 3 days for me...).

Been in contact with the Aussie Flexx bar importer and I believe he has put one aside for me with the already threaded bars to fit my stock bar end weights/handlebar guards. In combination with the 2" Rox risers with longer clutch/brake lines I will get similar set up as you, hope it will not be too much of a rise, like a chopper :-/

My last trip a few days ago I got an extremely sore neck & shoulder blade pain (after only 2 x 1/2 hour trips in one day), believe that was my posture on the bike, I have the high seat position and stock bars, maybe I should change to low seat position until I get the risers, I never have any issues with my neck/back other bikes (R1 & B-King) which makes me think that going higher might not be the answer on the other hand putting clip ons on the ST is not very tempting either, the other bikes in my stable does not have the angle of the ST`s bars though.

My DL650 seldom caused me any issues with neck/shoulder/vibes, might go to my local dealer that still got my old bike and sit on it and evaluate where/what the difference is, sometimes I wish I kept it but still convinced the ST will rock big time but needs many more "modifications" than some other bikes.

Yes due to lot of rain, 2 other bikes, work and my issues with the ST I have not racked up more miles/km`s since I bought it 6 weeks ago. Have not even tried my flashy skid plate as yet .
Ride safe!

That sounds like the same issue I had - solved with straighter, slightly narrower bars (that only cost twenty bucks!).
