I am thinking of doing some of The TET on My Tenere, ( From Georgia up ) Most of the vids that i have seen ,most riders are using 650's or smaller bikes. Is it doable on a Tenere?Any advice from members who have done some of the TET would be GREATLY Appreciated,

Due to their larger population, check the Beemer GS forums. Where they've gone we can certainly go.

Even the Trans Idaho Trail System. ;)

Dawg, I'm in FL now getting ready/hopefully today, to head to MA and planning to do as much of the TET as possible, hoping to be in MA on 4/30/12 if possible.

My understanding is that the TET is big-bike doable, except for some/few ALT routes that are posted as well, for go-arounds. My plan is to back-road from FL to the beginning of the AT at Springer Mtn then follow the AT off-road routes and TET as far North as time will allow.

When r u gonna do the trip?

Give me a 3 week heads up on your start day and I would enjoy joining you on your trip. The nap pictured was taken on one of the steeper sections of the TET. I picked it up turned off TCS and proceeded on my merry way.

reddawg,

I got to, sections, of AT1016_NC_GA, TET07 v2 alpha, TET09 v2 alpha, TET11 v2 alpha and TET12 v2 alpha aka TMT. Will post up a few picts asap. I did not do everything; had a full night & day of freekin downpour like I've never seen before and slabbed ahead of TET08 and most of TET09, but all that I saw/rode are doable on a Big DS/Super Ten. Only a cpl sections were sketchy - TET07 in VA(some medium washouts on hilly early sections and some severe up-hill/vertical switchbacks required good judgement re balance and momentum) and one section mid TET12 in MA w/ heavy deep soft washouts; was prolly really a go-around(well there was a sign Road Closed ::019:: ) but I managed somehow to keep it up and squeeze my way thru. I'll definitely look to do more complete sections when I head back down in the Fall.

In the meantime I'm looking in my back yard North twd TET 13-14-15 and beyond.

All the best w/ your ride in May.

Cheers, d ::001::

a few picts:

Start of the AT at Springer Mtn GA - on section AT1016_NC_GA

Some hardpack

some freshly graded

Sections of TET07 - @ Wolf Creek Trail System VA in the most violent downpour/wind/thunder/lightning I've ever experienced; camping!

new crushed stone washed away

2-3 inches crushed stone washed away after a night or torrential downpours! some pretty good washouts on gravel roads afterwards also

sections of TET09 - hard packed - WV, MD

sections of TET11 - hard packed NY

sections of TET12 - hard packed - MA, aka TMT

ooooohhhh - eventually said Road Closed
