Hi, I'm looking for some new bars with less bend and about 1" higher and maybe back towards rider a bit. I suppose I could use a Rox riser to get bar up & back if I can't get it all in the bar. But main thing is to find a bar with less bend. Hopefully this can be done without changing out the cables & lines.
Thanks

I'd say you have a safe inch or so of play in the cables but push it more than that and you likely will want to recable. There are a number of bars you can try (look in the tech section) but several of them will likely require you to recable as well, particularly with more pull back.

Hi LJM,

I believe the term "sweep" (pull back) is what you are referring to. The Tenere bars are mounted too forward for most riders. The Tech Section is your friend. Looking forward for you to restart at least one of the previous discussions.

I can understand your pain. The design of the Tenere has the handlebars WAY forward. Stock: no bent elbows and leaning on the handlebars makes and uncomfortable ride. The 2014+ handlebars are better than the 2012-13 handlebars but they still need less (more flat) Sweep and more Rise http://www.protaper.com/default/contour.html#product-tabs2 .

Protaper makes three handlebars that you might be interested in. Contour Raptor, EVO Adventure and EVO Adventure High.

Why someone has not made a replacement for the stock risers on the 14 and above i don't know. It would be so simple. They are a bolt on item now. I have looked on ebay and there are a lot for Harley's. Haven't tried to see if any would work on our bikes though.

I've found the dimensions of the Protaper bars, but can't find them for the stock 2014 bars.
Does anyone know, or know where to look?

Check out the bars from the FJ09. They are perfect IMO and at least one member here fit them to the Tenere with very little modding (do search on here and you'll find it)

I bought a used set of risers from another member - they come from Germany (there's a dealer in the states that tries to stock them (again, try searching) and they are 30MM - so shorter than the ROX risers so no cable changes are needed.

If you need something that brings the bars back then your only option right now are the ROX Risers which swivel back...or a set of bars with a lot of sweep but that wouldn't be very comfortable.

I read a lot about excessive sweep on the bars being a problem. Odd, as I found bars that approach a straight bar (drag bar) or minimal sweep to be very uncomfortable. They push your thumb joint backwards which tends to push your elbows out.

Many bikes, like cruisers, have very high sweep just because it is comfortable, as the wrist bends easily in that direction.
If I showed you a top pic of my old Yam Royal Star you'd be amazed at the sweep.
My new bars are much higher than stock but retain the stock sweep and find they are a very natural position, and comfortable.
(even standing)

Is this an off road technique (requirement) where you want a straighter bar? ::017::
Or is it just me?

Thanks for all the info. It looks the Rox riser and new bars are about the only to go. For anybody who's installed the 2" Rox risers did you you have to replace any cables ? If replacing cables is required I would start with new bars see how they feel and only add risers as last resort
Thanks

Are these going to work? The '14-16 risers are not perpendicular to the bar slots are they? On the motomachines site the '11-13 and '14-16 risers appear to have the same part # but I believe the fitment is different (although it would be great if it wasn't).

Used these on my "14", work fine. You will need extended brake and clutch lines though.
