Just picked up a leftover '16 ES and have started the farkling. I've been riding most of my adult life (55) and have no particular brand loyalty. My last Yami was a XT500! Anyway, I most recently had a Guzzi Stelvio and then a Stone, after a couple Harleys. I looked at other Adv bikes and was disappointed mostly by the increasingly difficult and costly service requirements. I, for one, refuse to buy a bike that requires I either buy an expensive aftermarket widget or go back to the dealer to turn off service reminder lights. I'm looking forward to what will probably be many trouble-free miles and to doing my own maintenance, as always.

Welcome aboard from across the river in Damascus, MD. Watch for the Romney WV Camp-N-Ride threads here and on ADV. It's the weekend before Mothers Day

Welcome to the Forum from Harrisonburg, VA
If you are coming from the cruiser, touring, etc world of scooter riding it takes a while to get used to this new riding - especially the height of the bike.

Congratulations on your purchase and a warm welcome to the forum. Greetings from Beautiful British Columbia Canada!

You have made the right choice and the S10 should fulfill your needs perfectly. It's one of the large adventure bikes that's easiest to ride and least expensive to maintain. Unlike with the Euro brands, you are not going to visit your dealership for a long long time. ::022::

Yes, it's different...the reason I prefer the high perch is commuting. I had a GS and then Stelvio , along with a DR650...always come back to the D/S platform.

Welcome from nearby Mt. Weather. I'm going to guess I'll start seeing another Tenere riding past the house real soon.

You are close indeed! I go to Leesburg for work so I'm a rt. 7 warrior. Got the bike set up pretty much now so will be riding pretty soon. First year that I've parked it for the Winter. Too many crazies and deer on the road. I usually head out 0545 or so to beat the worst of it and to get back home before the PM rush.

That sounds nice, I go to Springfield everyday. If I were to leave at 0545 I'd be sitting in traffic for too long on Rt 7, or the Greenway, or 28, or... I guess there's no place I'd miss traffic if I left at that time. I've noticed every 5 minutes cost a noticeable uptick in traffic volume.

I've also had my bikes sitting most of the winter, and last Fall...last summer. We just moved up here and it took much more of a toll on our riding that I ever would have anticipated. I'm hoping I'll do much better this year.

If you see a red and a blue Tenere riding together around the area it's a reasonable chance it Dirt_Mom and myself.

Ride safe.

That's pretty awesome that you ride together. I'm not going to complain about my commute after seeing yours! Yikes!
I'm on FB as Mark MacDowell if you want to connect there.

I've somehow managed to stay off facebook. Best way to get me is here with a PM. Please consider joining us in a few weeks at the Romney event.

We have about 90 riders signed up so far. I suspect we'll be a bit higher by the time the event comes around. Always a good time. Plus you can get to ride some new Yamahas and Suzuki bikes with the factory trucks being there.
