"Hello"
Figured I'd better say hello as I'm sure I will be hitting everyone up for lots of advice in the very near future. I just put a deposit down on a 2014 ES. It's currently sitting in a crate about an hour and a half away, but on Tuesday (as long as there are no hiccups...), I will be picking her up and riding her home.
I've never owned an Adventure/Dual Sport before, in fact I've basically only ridden cruisers (Harley's, Harley Wanna Be, Bonnevilles); I did own one Yamaha in the past, it was a 71' XS650. At least every couple of years (annually, if I can), some friends and I like to take off for a week and head out on a biking/camping trip. For numerous reasons, it's been getting less and less fun/comfortable to do on Sportsters and Bonnevilles. I was thrilled when this year when they started talking about getting adventure bikes; I'm about 10 years older than them and I did not want to be the guy saying that these trips were too hard on my back. When my friend's fuel pump went out on his Sportster at the last minute, he borrowed a GS1200 for the trip... he instantly wanted one. I wasn't immediately sold on an adventure bike, I was thinking of either a Harley Dyna or Street Glide... Right of the bat, they both knew they wanted GSA 1200s and made a pact to start saving and buy GSAs in 2016. I was a little more hesitant and started obsessively researching the bigger adventure bikes. It didn't take long for me to start getting excited about how these bikes could really change the types of trips we would be taking. I'll be honest, at first, if money was no object... I would have been right there with them saving for a GS 1200 Adventure. But after all things considered (money, dealer support, reliability and capabilities), I began leaning towards the Tenere. Once I got to test ride one (non ES), I was sold. At 6'3" and 220 lbs, it fit like a glove. I could not believe how comfortable of a bike it was. The plan was to save some more money and hopefully be able to get one in 2015.
Fast forward to this month... Long story short. I saw the pictures of the "red" 2015 ES and hated it. Found an ES about an hour or so away for $3k off MSRP. Called my bank and put down a deposit last night. Purchase decision was based a lot on what I had read on here; seems like at least 95% of you love your Teneres and have no regrets. I certainly appreciated all the posts.
See y'all around.
