My sincere apologies to the forum members. I thought I had already done the new member intro here, so here goes. I purchased my new-to-me 2017 XT1200Z in December 2020. I got quite a screaming deal on a barely used bike. Apparently someone bought the bike in West Virginia and rode it out to Arizona and parked it. I traded my 2010 Yamaha Stratoliner Deluxe and could not be happier. I had only ever owned heavy Yamaha V-twin cruisers: a 1982 Virago 920, a 2004 Roadstar Midnight Star and a 2010 Stratoliner Dlx. All great bikes for their intended use, but I grew tired of the big heavy bikes with the small gas tanks. When I started long distance touring on the Stratoliner it's shortcomings became very apparent. Fast forward to 2015 when I attended a Yamaha dealer test ride event and I took my first ride on the Super Tenere. Oh my goodness, I never knew I could have so much fun on a motorcycle! Then in 2019 on my last long trip with the Stratoliner I was touring in Montana and Idaho and made the classic mistake of mis-reading a paper map and believing my gps. I ended up on a small road that eventually ran out of pavement and I ended up riding 25 miles on a gravel road to Sin Valley, ID. When I got back I started shopping for the Super Tenere. So far I've been to Arizona twice, Utah once and up to Death Valley and back. I bought this bike to be primarily a weekend day tripper and also a long distance tourer. I love having a bike that takes me everywhere I want to go and if I run out of pavement no big deal, I can keep right on going. I live in the Coachella Valley in Southern California so there's lots of great roads to ride from here. My favorite place to tour is Southern Utah. I've attached a photo each of my "new" XTZ and my old Stratoliner. So far I'm having a blast and do not regret making the switch for a second.
