I'm going to let the wife answer this one...

the Garmin Zumo 550 unit has the capability of holding mp3 songs that you can transfer from your computer to an SD card. You can also use a Bluetooth headset (Scala Rider works best) with this model and you are able to listen to your directions & music at the same time. It also has the capability of hooking up a phone to the unit as well. They also have XM Satellite capabilities BUT Garmin has stopped making the GXM 30 antenna that is required to listen to XM (traffic/weather/music).

The new Zumo 660 has all that to but uses the GXM 40 antenna.

Big question is how much do you want to spend?

I don't have one, but I was looking at the one here: http://www.bluewhaleintercom.com.

It states that it can link up to multiple blue tooth sources, so it should be able to handle GPS directions and mp3 music at the same time. Of course, you have to have a player that has blue tooth. My android phone plays music great, but I'm not sure that I want to listen too much music while riding.....I am too easily distracted.

I use a Sena headset paired to my iPhone. I've been playing with different GPS software, and so far the Garmin app is OK, the AAA Trip Tik doesn't play well with music and the standard map app doesn't do turn by turn. I havent tried Motion-X apps yet, but so far I have yet to find one that will accept custom routes, play well with streaming music, and work well on the bike.

On all my bikes, I use the Zumo 550 with XM connected to a JM2003 (cb) with the extra harness to take cell phone calls.

When I do long trips, since I do them mostly by myself, it's a requirement from my wife. When my friends start poking fun... I remind them atleast my wife let's me take trips....
