Here's my problem and possible solution. Need a luggage rack that I can attach my RDL backrest to. I'm also shitcanning my back seat. I can't weld aluminum, and need something to make a trial run with. Just happen to have some 3/4" treated plywood kicking around so here we go.
Need some long metric bolts, If it all works out, I'll order proper dome top bolts. Trial run remember?
Sits on 5 - 8mm and 4 - 6mm bolts.
Spacers. 3/8 black pipe and washers sporting my hacky welding.
Attaching the backrest.
Welded the nuts to the lower plate to make blindwell nuts and attached to the under side.
Mounted on the bike.
So after I use it for a while, I'll decide what to remake it with. Either going to use aluminum or marine grade plywood with a nice natural finish. The marine plywood is nice because it has no voids inside and no knot holes. $100 a sheet though, and I just need 2 feet of it.
I'm a little concerned that the aluminum might flex too much with the backrest.
Flame away, I know it's not the standard solution, but you never know until you try.
