My Hugger arrived from Italy via Tiger_One (Thanks Dave!) and thought I would post some pics of it.

Mods to the Yamaha part part to make it work on the ST appear to be:
1) Cut a reinforcing rib on the underside of the hugger to allow a screw/rubber washer and rubber well-nut to be installed.
2) Add a Aluminum brace.
3) Add a threaded aluminum bushing (maybe)?
4) Cut-off a mounting tab that is not needed on the ST, then try and cover up the hacking with a black magic marker!
5) Use a die-grinder to remove all trace of the molded-in Yamaha Part #!

I'll fit it up tomorrow.

Thanks to Tiger_one (dave). I tried to buy one when they were first announced and after 3+weeks of intermittent emails, I gave up.

Yeah, isn't that something. If anything, they've become even slower than before. I have a shipment inbound from them, supposedly. I received the tracking number and courier name only when I asked about it, but the tracking number returns a status of 'not found.' Contacted Elisa and she said something about seeing what the courier is doing to 'expedite.' I'm guessing that somehow Motoshop Yamaha gets the tracking number before the item is formally in courier's system....at least I'm hoping that's the case. I just can't adjust to their pace I suppose.

Great report Stevepsd. I can't wait till the first guy hits the rocks/mud and see how it fares. The bottom does rest inside the swing arm so that SHOULD add some support, but having no mount point on the left side gives me a little wonder.

I have to give credit to Tremor38 for the detailed description of the communication I could expect from their shop, or I would have been out of there long time ago. I asked many simple questions that never got answered. Never knew the parts were shipped till they hit my door from fedex looking for a signature.

I also think they have the best ECU flash, but no way am I going to ship my ECU via Fedex to them. We need a USA connection for sure.

It's really getty crazy with them lately. My latest strategy is to email Tosco, Elisa and Motoshop's 'Ricambi' all in the same message. Elisa answers quicker that way...I hate to do that, but I equally hate being kept in the dark for long stretches.

It doesn't help, that by the time I get up their day is almost done. Seems Elisa likes to do the email in the mornings, which hits me like 4am.

I also was sorta prepared as I delt with Italy with the MTS1200 when I put it in the shop for the tank replacement warranty. They had to destroy the side panels that screw into embedded nuts in the tank. Italy was on 3 week partay at the time so had to wait that long for new panels. LOL

No telling how much money they could make if they tightened up their response to customers, ITALY as a whole that is. That was a pretty large factor for me getting rid of the MTS12 and keeping the ST. Kind of ironic that I had to still deal with them on the ST.

Got the hugger installed.

Need a 6mm allen, 4mm allen, 12mm wrench and a 3/8" drill bit. Install time is about 30 minutes.

I noticed that none of the fastners had loc-tite on them, so prior to installing, I would remove the two screws that hold the aluminum brace on and loc-tite those fastners.

Pretty simple install:
1. Remove both allen head bolts that secure the aluminum brake stay in place.
2. Leaving the brake hose connected, rotate the stay and enlarge the 3rd hole from the front with a 3/8" bit. This is where the rubber well-nut will go.
3. With the stay still rotated, put the well-nut (with hugger still attached) into the enlarged hole and tighten. Be sure to put loc-tite on the well-nut screw.
4. Put the stay (with hugger attached) back into position and insert the front allen bolt (with loc-tite) thru the stay/swingarm and into the threaded aluminum bushing in the hugger. Note that the lock-nut will no longer be used on this bolt.
5. Replace the rear allen head bolt (with loc-tite) and lock-nut.
6. Now tighten both bolts.
7. Done.

Just so you guys know there will be another hugger alternative coming out of Greece. HLD has been redesigning a completely new hugger made out of ABS. They are testing it out on a XTZ right now and I'm hoping to have pictures soon to post and they will be shipping me the very first hugger. These guys have been fantastic to deal with over these past months. Just a little history they were the guys that were selling a hugger on E-Bay and I was the first to order one in the states they tell me for the XT. When I received it and installed it the front mount broke off. The original hugger was made out of fiberglass that didn't hold up. They refunded my money right away told to keep the hugger and I thought that was that. Not long after they contacted me and said they were going back to the drawing board and would stay in touch. True to their word they are sending me the new ABS hugger once testing is complete.

They did say this design is better and cleaner then the fiberglass one. They also said the part was tricky to make because of the lack of mounting points on the left side. The old hugger I still have covered a lot more of the rear tire which I prefer over the Italian fender. I hope the new one does the same more to come.

Having read this thread I decided to do it myself. Ordered the hugger from www.AJSutton.co.uk

Found the extra bits and pieces in the garage. I left the original attachment on the exhaust side as I don't think it will interfere with anything.

Now the good part. Just over £11 with postage.

Very happy bunny.

Stevepsd........Thanks for the clear write up and pics of the installation . When I was in the shop Tosco took me through the installation on a bike that was on the lift and I took some pictures as a reminder. Just like what you said. ::008::
