"Hep meh! Hep me!" I's mounting up on my big tall 1200 Yamaha Super Tenere and when I threw my leg up n over my bike, that loop on the back of my boots/brogans caught on that button sticking up on the top box mounting plate. I struggled n strained for nearly 10 minutes trying to get loose. I nearly fell over w my SupTen, and nearly pulled some muscles trying to get loose n keep from falling over w the bike to boot!! I thought I's gonna have to call the cops to help me. I bet I looked like a 304lb contortionist trying to work out!!! So those loops are coming off.

If he carries a leatherman he would probably stab himself trying to open it and balance at the same time!

Looks like you are doing it wrong!

Try putting pants over your boot and that hides the pull-on loop.

OR try swing you leg over with a more bent knee - you foot/leg should not be going that far back on the bike. eg try mounting when the top box is on with out kicking it.

Lesson learnt! Lucky this time, could have been worse. Personally for me, anything that is flapping, has a a hoop or dangles will, at some point, get hung up or snag on something, this goes for motorcycle, bicycles and even just walking. I do as Gigitt mentioned, tuck everything in under pant legs, zip down, velcro flap closed, also I tend to stand on peg and bend at the knee as you would mounting a horse, not that I own a horse. Note to self, I really must learn to get on the bike from the right side, it's counter intuitive but also makes for more stability......

Not of the boot - of YOU hung up. LOL

Your next hazard is going to be the notorious top of the shifter rod, catching your pants leg as you come to a stop and try to put your foot down. We've had more than a couple of members catch on it or the plate covering the U-joint.

I never caught m britches on that, but have caught them a number of times on the right foot peg it seems. Nearly fell over at a red light one time.

I have a 36" inseam - sp pretty long legs - yet I don't think I ever swing my leg over the back of the bike to mount, even though that's how I mount a bicycle. I tend to step on the foot peg and then just step over the seat. But that may also be facilitated by long legs.
Well, well - what a bummer there wasn't anybody around filming you.
Another option would be wearing riding boots - none of mine have loops

Well lucky me that's one problem I've never had !

I do the Ewan McGregor move. Stick my leg out 90deg and hop over on one leg. I saw it on the Long Way Round It works well when the bike is loaded. It also helps since I keep the top case on all the time. It doesn't look graceful, but it works.

The first week I had my bike home from my Dads I was reading about how you could adjust the height of the seat. Wearing jeans and sandals I went out to my garage and went to hop on it to see how it felt. At the time it was on its side stand cause I hadn't learned to put it on the center stand. As I kicked the stand up, the little lever with a knob on the stand looped around my pant leg and I couldn't kick it off. I leaned over to unhook it and me and the bike went down. What I learned, no more sandals even if I'm just gonna sit on it, use the center stand AND most important, I mount while standing on a foot peg. Makes it so much easier.

Hey, squid! Haven't you heard of ATGATT? That (apparently) includes the garage when you aren't actually going anywhere! :p

for OP: that is both pretty funny to picture, and tragic at the same time. I bet it wasn't too funny for you...I mean nobody woulda thought of that beforehand. I am glad you and the bike didn't go horizontal at least, that could have hurt! I agree, off come the loops!

When my bikes are full-luggage, I always consider doing this, but I'm afraid that my gravity-unfriendly mass (265) will tilt the bike to the side when I'm not in a position to save it, and down we'll go, so I never have the nerve to do this. You'd think that 30 years and many hundreds of thousands of miles in I'd have some sort of idea who to, you know, get on a bike. But I'm skeert, so...

...I do this. I have ever since I had my first bike with a trunk and bags (96 Daytona 1200). It's funny this has come up, because I haven't yet bought side cases for the S10, so I still sling the leg over like the OP does, and like everyone does on a std. non-luggage bike. But, I have added a trunk, and cases are incoming, so I've been wondering if I can pull this move off on a tall adv bike like this. My last bike was a 1050 Sprint ST w cases and a trunk, and it had a pretty unnaturally tall seat/subframe (look at a pic of one...weird execution of the underseat exhaust causes an extreme angle to the subframe), and it was all I could do in gear to hop on this way.

Maybe I need to trust the center stand like bns here? Egads, I'm a n00b all over again! :)

I am a ATGATT guy, now... It was so embarrassing. Worst part was I had no idea how to pick it up and was flying out the next morning for a week. I should have googled how to pick it up first, cause I threw my back out doing it the wrong way. I now know how to pick it up safely. I guess I learned a lot that night...
