The same principle applies to sound systems and beer. Sometimes it's safer to stick to the cheap stuff, or you'll never be satisfied again.

Love mine. Which direction does the shock come out? Gotta swap my Penske in soon and would love a hint before I rip into it.

It comes out on the rear brake side. You will have to remove the retaining hook for the hydraulic lines that run through there, then you will have the room to sneak it out. Make sure you take all the linkage apart while you have it out and apply grease. Many have found theirs to be bone dry from the factory. Mine was the same.

Wish I had the room for a lift I've been wanting one for years. The shock comes up and out the right side. You may have to raise the rear wheel to get more clearance and wiggle the shock out. There's a little bracket held in with and Allen bolt that you should remove so the shock doesn't get hung up on it. That's the way I did it.

I thought the same before doing a little math and planning. Pep Boys make a lift that is regularly on sale for $200. It sure isn't as nice as Offcamber's but with a little modification it holds the Tenere safely AND can slide under the work bench when not in use. The mod was to bolt the ramp and table together with 2 pieces of angle iron. The photo is of the original angle iron which was too small (go with 3"). Bolting the ramp to the table creates a 2" gap between the lip of the ramp and the floor, so I simply put a scrap of 2X6 beneath the lip when loading or unloading.

And yes, once you've had one you won't go back to crawling around the floor.

I really like that PRO 1200 lift. But from a space constrained standpoint, here's an option from Kendon USA. I have their lift and they're top notch. The lift stands up and is rolled away to wherever needed.

I have the same Kendon lift, Ron, also a Kendon 3 rail stand up trailer for my dirt bikes. It is nice that they don't take up much room when not in use.

I have been eyeing these. I'm wondering if the sport bike model would suffice (holds up to 600lbs) since the Tenere is just under 600. We all know things are engineered to well exceed the "recommended" weight specifications.

I'd worry about the stress of wrenching on the bike while it's lifted or if you lean on it. Added weight of accessories?

While I have used my Kendon stand up lift to work on my dirt bikes, I haven't tried the S10 on it. It should hold the weight and a far as worrying about leaning on it, the instructions tell you to use tie downs from the bike to the provided loops for added security. That plus the front wheel chock keep it in place.

If you have the room, the Harbor Freight lift has a wider platform and with the coupons regularly found in most motorcycle magazines, can be had for $300-320, about half of what the Kendon costs.

I took the plunge on a Harbor Freight lift a couple of weeks ago. First ever experience with Harbor Freight because I try to never buy cheap crap, but I have to say I was incredibly impressed with their customer service. I had a coupon to buy their 1000lb Pittsburgh brand motorcycle/ATV lift for $330 (normally $430). Called ahead to make sure they had the lift in stock and they did, so headed over with a buddy in my wife's 4Runner. I walked into the store, found the lift, and talked to who I think was the store manager. I was ready to buy, but he gave me a heads up on an upcoming sale two weeks in the future that would knock another $30 off the price. After chatting a bit he said that if I bought that day I could bring my receipt back two weeks later during the sale and they would refund me the $30 difference. Sweet - done deal! Sale starts on Friday and I'll be heading back to get my $30.

I had read a bunch of reviews about this lift and a lot of people upgrade the stock front wheel chock with a different one from Harbor Freight. I bought one, and also tossed in a dirt bike stand with the pedal lift thingy for my KTM.

Then it came time to load the 340 lb crate containing the lift into the 4Runner. The manager I had been talking with had me pull up to a side roll-up door. He had to use a fork lift to move a bunch of crap out into the parking lot just to make a path to get my lift out, then fork-lifted the lift over to the 4Runner and helped us heft it into the rear end. Took him at least 20 minutes to do all that and I very much appreciated his efforts. Really good guy.

So I got all the stuff home and quickly realized two things: First, I should have gotten the OTHER wheel chock that HF offered. And second, the dirt bike lift was a total piece of crap.

I assembled the $30 dirt bike lift and then tried to lift my ~200 lb buddy with it. The thing just about collapsed, and it looked like part of it bent. I tossed it into a box and took it and the wheel chock back to HF and they took the returns with no questions asked, and I bought the other/better chock. I've since mounted the new chock (had to drill several new holes in the lift bed) and it looks great. Have not mounted the Tenere yet but will do that this weekend.

Summary: I had never given Harbor Freight a chance because I considered their stuff crap. And for the most part I think that's true! But I have to give them credit for standing behind that crap and providing way better customer service than I normally see or expect these days. Seemed like everybody in that store had a great attitude and truly wanted to help. Damn that felt nice! Major props to Harbor Freight.

Please post a update on the Harbor Freight lift when you've had the Tenere on it. I am not sure I would trust any HF tool that could kill me if it malfunctioned. But I love the price.

Some HF stuff is decent some stuf is absolute junk. I have heard good and bad things about the lift. Seems many items require modifications to ge them to work better. I spent double what the HF lift cost on my lift but its also 3 times the lift. I am getting the HF tire changing setup and making mods to it. I went and spent the extra money on the lift for extra safety and relaibility. I didn't wan't to riskmy self and a $14K bike to save $300. Plus i know I could sell the better lift for close to what I paid for it. .YMMV
