MT09 Tracer (FJ09 to some)

It was sad to see the S10 go as it is a lovely bike. I had meant to keep it for years to come but a recent illness with ongoing symptoms meant I found it a bit heavy to manage. There was a risk the bike would become a garage ornament as I would make excuses not to ride it. A test ride on an MT07 and then the Tracer when the S10 was in the dealer shop for a service and MOT respectively convinced me that I would manage to continue riding if I had a nimbler ride.

So, 3 days ago I picked up this from Skellerns in Cheltenham

All I can say is that this bike a a hoot! Great engine, 60kg lighter, a decent price and the ride is very comfortable, although a 60 mile round trip is the longest done so far.

So, you may see less of me on this board but I may pop in from time to time.

With that addictive triple, I predict you'll have many great hours on it.

Feel free to come brag\report as often as you like. Lot's of blue blood around here. Bet it will be enjoyed.

Congratulation on the new ride!

As an old man, whatever it takes to ride on anything with 2 wheels and a motor DO IT.

Being 67 myself... my Tenere in the shop for major warranty repair... I have looked at a red FJ-09 many times. I would have bought it but the ground clearance is 3.4" lower than the Tenere. There are a few roads I like to ride that would smooth the bottom of the FJ... but I really like the FJ.

Might need just a little accessorising to get it near the comfort over distance of your Ten, but the engine is sweet and its deffo nice n light which looks to suit to your new circumstances. Sure your going to enjoy the new steed mate... ::001::

great bike reviews

This bike is getting excellent reviews. I love triple motors. Love my ES but this could be a "retirement" bike.

I was really smitten with the FJ-09 and the prospect for a big reduction in weight from the S10, but I'm really turned off by the 110-mph speed limiter and yet another round of lower-gear power restrictions. Someone at Yamaha needs to get control of their lawyers.

Congrats! Before I recently got my S10, my other choices were also the FJ-09 and the Versys 1000. It looks like a fantastic ride and I'm sure the weight difference is greatly appreciated.

I bet there will be a ECUflash that will cure that ill very soon. After riding a FJ-09, I will say it SHOULD go faster than 110mph.

Sweet! ::015::

I had a demo ride on an FZ-09 and was smitten by that motor, better for me then the Triumph triples I've owned. For comfort, better suspension, ABS/TC, weather protection, the FJ-09 would be my choice.....want, want, want!!

110mph is way faster then I want to ride on the street so that's not a problem for me. There's not an FJ-09 in my garage now because my garage if full!

Report back, share more of your experience with the FJ.

I happened to be on a private road today, and as we in Europe do not get the neutered ECU, I can confirm that your assertion is correct. With only a smallish screen, half fairing and upright riding position, it's not the most comfortable place to be at that speed. It will cruise all day at 90mph in comfort, which is a more realistic speed on European motorways, not that I would want to spend long on a motorway as this bike is so much fun on more challenging terrain.

Congrats on the GREAT new bike. I will not be selling the S10 to buy one but I will be buying one the end of summer. Sweet ride.

Seriously thinking about it adding it to my garage.

Just sold my FJR today ... just too heavy and I kept finding excuses NOT to ride it. Now my S10 is lonely all by itself and I am seriously thinking about making this it's stablemate.

Didn't know about the 110 mph limitation. Not a real big issue for me. But irritating.
