I like everything about them except they leak a little and I don't think they are as robust as the Happy Trail panniers on my KLR. The big bag would hold a full face I think or two smaller skull type helmets. Don't know for sure I don't use them that way. I love the way the Givi rack comes off. Early models (mine) had faulty hinge pins which I fixed and are bullet proof now. Rumor has it that problem has been resolved. I like the look and I am 75% satisfied.

I'm on my second set. First ones leaked and I had a hinge pin that kept working out when riding. Just got back from a 2,500+ mile trip and I lost one of the hinge pins on my 33L bag. Called Givi and they are sending me a couple hinge pins. Not sure what the "fix" is, but it looks like it isn't.....

To fix mine I pushed out the hinge pins, drilled holes all the way through, inserted small threaded rod with acorn caps and threadlocker on both ends.
Lock nuts would work also.

I've read somewhere that on the early production models the hinge holes were too big to hold the knurled end of the pin and later models corrected this problem. Again that information may or may not be correct.

It is a shame that Givi produced an item with defects like leaking and hinge pin failure.

Am I reading correctly that your second set does not leak? Did you work with Givi directly or your vendor? Thanks

I rode in about 45 minutes of relatively heavy rain on the way home from my trip Sunday night and there was no evidence of water inside the bags - at least that I could notice after riding for 15 hours and 885 miles................. But I was pretty beat and did not spend much time looking in the bags. ;)

I contacted GiviUSA when I noticed my first set leaking each time the bike was in the rain or even when I washed the bike. They shipped me a new set.

2nd set of panniers, 3rd top box. All leak when being 'thoroughly washed', but not as bad as the first set. Not tried them in heavy rain yet, but luckily my inner bags (BMW GS which kinda fit) are waterproof.

I'm on the second set as well (same issues as ColoRider). I think these are better, but still not "waterproof".
The biggest issue is the design when used as panniers, has a large pocket where the latch is that puddles water.
Even if the gaskets don't leak, as soon as you open the bag, the water puddled there runs/drips inside.
For my Alaska trip I plan on packing anything that must stay dry inside a dry bag of some kind.

+1
That's one of the reasons i'll ise them from now on with optional bags. I tested them with high press. jet, blow the rest of the water from around the lock and found only traces of water. Fine by me.

I have had no trouble with mine at all, did a two day rain soaker, no water, hinges all work flawlessly. I worried about leakage with all the lib hinges, but only once with pressure washer top box seeped water, bit think it was where I drilled the holes for the back rest.

My main leaking problem appears to be when parked up outside. The water gathers in the lock 'well'. There is a drain hole, but if the bike is left on the side stand the left hand lock can fill with water. On one trip I had a large cup full in this pannier.

Since then they have been returned to Givi. The seal has been re-newed and extra latches put on both sides of the panniers to compress the seal even further. These latches are not ad-hoc and seem to be designed for the Trekker so Givi must be aware of the problem. Seems to have solved the problem though.

I'd like to find out how big the opening is when the 33L is used as a top loader. I'm still a bit on the fence about these as I can use a set of E36L from another bike, but I do like the top loading option. TIA, John

had the luck to drop the ST once with the Trekkers attached. Small scratch left on the case but it survived. I used SWMotech rack with them, rock solid. I have a 33l on the left and a 46l on the right. Too wide causing a lot of air resistance on hwy, should have installed two 33l cases. The 46 case will not accept 2 full sized helmet. No a big fan of the side opening design as everything falls off when u open it. I carry a lot of small tools and equipment on trips and they usually are stored in my left case. Much easier with top opening like the Zega cases with vertical wall dividers.
