Ive got a 70 mile highway trip to get her home.

I know of, and have seen the numerous discussion on break-in. I'll follow the book, keep her under 3900 RPM, varying the speed to get her home ...

You're gonna miss the ass-draggin' seat height, foot-forward posturing, slow turn-in, 1960's chassis/suspension technology. Oh geez, what am I saying? You're not gonna miss any of that crap. You'll be too busy giggling over riding an awesomely designed, modern technology motorcycle!

Congrats and have fun ::013::

Ride it like you stole it on the way home. Change the oil when you get there and break in will be complete.
::026:: I agree,,, the more research I do and questions I ask of people I know that build engines, the more I believe in the principle of hammering a motor especially in the first 20kms.'
You need to bed the rings properly and "apparently " this can only truly be acheived in the very early stages... Bed them hard and fast? Anyone else heard this?

Don't want to hijack the thread but check out this web site for a perspective on breaking in engines.

http://www.mototuneusa.com/break_in_secrets.htm

Used this method to break in a Yamaha FJR in 2007, a Honda ST1300 in 2008, Harley Fatboy in 2008 and my Super Tenere in 2011. FJR and Harley are sold still have the Honda with 33k on the odometer. Result =Strong running engines that dont use oil.

You decide

Hey Dingo!!!! From your neighbor, enjoy your ride back. Have fun!!! It was great meeting you last week when you stopped by the house. Maybe I can go out for a ride on Sunday, let me know. You have my cell number.
It's awesome to see more guys from the Seattle area coming alive.

::004:: You're gonna love it!

Please, God...oh please - don't let this turn into another Break In Debate thread...

Having said that - I followed the break in procedure for the first hundred miles or so, and then just rode it like I'm always going to ride it, taking care to not bounce it off the rev limiter (too much). It's worked on every new bike I've ever owned. No major engine problems in 25 years of riding road bikes. ::008:: If I'm not mistaken the engine has already been to redline before it left the factory to ensure it wasn't going to grenade itself from the jump...

Yup - great bike.

Handles very well - feels very well balanced when either sitting or standing
Plenty of power - keeping it under 3900 rpm, but I can feel there is much more grunt available from the engine
Seat mod - I get it! Particularly when engine braking.
Corners/twisties - its just waiting to be unleashed in the corners given the great engine performance and handling. Would probably make a great mottard bike.
Thumper - feels like an XR650 - it just doesnt feel like a big bore bike, which is great!
Stock can - while porbably overweight, I was presently suprised by its grunt tone near 3900.

Geeting my farkle on ... got the Altrider skid plate, side guards, and crash bars on yesterday ...
