Re: Gear Indicator on '14?
Doesn't need them, it doesn't break down.
Doesn't need them, it doesn't break down.
I need to park in the roadway to retrieve my mail and wish the S10 had them. They are great safety feature when parked at roadside, maybe offering assistance to someone else, checking a map, putting on rain gear, etc... I've use 4 way flasher sometimes when stopped at red lights to help others see me and reduce the risk of getting hit from behind and when riding in heavy rain. In Florida ya need all the help ya can get! Four way flashers never hurt anyone and can save your life.Donk said:Doesn't need them, it doesn't break down.

Have you ever had self-cancelling indicators not cancel on you, or cancel when you didn't want them to? Scarey shit, lol. Whatever solution is put in place needs manual intervention from time to time. Oh and if you are looking at the dash to see what gear you are in, you will see that the indicators are on too, just before you hit something because you are looking at the dash and not the road.Big Blu said:Did ya ever forget to cancel your turn signal, I have.... scary shit! Drivers sometime make decision based on what they see and assume your about to turn when that's not your intention. They pull out and BOOM, you're dead! Self cancelling signals should be mandatory for that very reason, well at least I think so!
That's good to hear Brick, thx for the update. ::008:: Every time you post about you're '14 I check my bank account, maybe in the fall when I return from Europe.Brick said:My 2014 ES HAS four way flasher.it hasn't broken down but I used them twice on this trip in the fog.

jb, this is the 21st century, get with it man. ::025::jbrown said:I had a gear indicator on my '85 Honda Nighthawk I rode for 5 or 6 years. It didn't stop me from trying for that extra gear on the freeway.
I remember thinking "That'll be useful" when I got the bike, but it turned out it wasn't useful to me at all.
As for 4-way flashers, in 45 years of driving cars and motorcycles, I've never actually had occasion to use the flashers. I did try them out once to see if they worked on an MGB I had, but the switch broke and stopped the turn signals from working.
So I'm in the "don't raise the price for a gear indicator" camp.

If you are worried about breaking down and not being seen, maybe it's time to carry road flares.
The BMW bikes that I have had in the past have all had self-canceling signals, and I was never happy with them. I'd constantly have to check to see if they've cancelled, and re-engage them if so. The BMW signals cancel about 100' too early IMO.frez said:Have you ever had self-cancelling indicators not cancel on you, or cancel when you didn't want them to? Scarey shit, lol. Because of cars, riders have the expectation that self-canceling turn signals on a bike should relieve the rider of having to manually cancel. This isn't true of any system as its technically infeasible. Self-canceling turn signals are a safety net when the rider forgets to manually cancel, so the rider doesn't drive ten miles further with the signal blinking. With this lowered requirement bar, they're a valuable safety feature with almost no downside.frez said:Have you ever had self-cancelling indicators not cancel on you, or cancel when you didn't want them to?
