I am pretty sure that the electronic suspension will last a long time. It is...Japanese!

Bought my 2012 on 7/31/2011. Had a lot of money in suspension, upgrades, and add-on's. Enjoyed the majority of the 52,200 miles. The engine was rebuilt due to a CCT failure and it ran excellent afterwards. Still traded it in on a 2015 ES and so far, 1869 miles, I am not disappointed.

The suspension is the big difference.
3 preload settings: One up, Two up, and Luggage
3 dampening settings: Hard, Std, Soft
7 dampening level settings: +3, +2, +1, 0, -1, -2, -3

The stock adjustable windshield is not great though alright for warm weather.

The all digital dash will be better when I discover how to do all the functions. Recently saw the brightness can be controlled. Would prefer some color.

Cruise control is very nice... Heated grips are good to have but has three fixed heat settings... Gas gauge seems to be alright and better than the previous... 4-Way flashers should be a safety standard... Different sidestand that is close to too tall and will be with a BigFoot mounted... LED turn signals / indicators can be seen easier... Very little storage room under the seat... Flash To Pass yes I use this... The Start button is also the Kill Switch... Handlebar position is still too low and too far away.

Like the electronic suspension a lot. Only concern is how many miles and days before there are problems and who can repair the suspension?

Until then I will enjoy every comfortable smooth tracking easy handling mile.

I'm really glad to read your post after following your repair problems with the 2012. I was wondering for a time if you were going to bail on us.
SAIL2XXS let me ride his 2014 and once I pay for another kitchen remodel (argg), plus a graduation blow-out vacation to South Africa with the daughter, I'm thinking about going from the 2012 to a 2014 or 2015. Reading realistic posts like yours helps.

Re: Anyone on there 2Nd Tenere?

I honestly don't think anyone would regret the upgrade from the 2012 to a 2014 and up.
with the improvements, it is a better bike. No doubt. And this is coming from a guy that never rode one.

But to me, with the amount of work that I have into mine, it's dialed in. The only fly in the ointment is the front forks. Even with linear springs, I can blow through the suspension on hard bumps. Maybe it's my settings, but my next purchase will be a traxxion dynamics drop in cartridge. Then the bike is good for another 60 km.

Regarding the ES suspension...it will work well enough.
Personally I would buy the non es, transfer my suspension bits over, and be a happy camper.

Re: Anyone on there 2Nd Tenere?

Tim, with regard to the 3 fixed settings that can be selected on the fly for the heated grips, you can preset those 3 to anywhere from 0 to 100%
and then they will go to those settings when you select any of the 3 on the fly.

Glad that you like the many refinements to the 15. As one who went from a flashed, Ohlins equipped 12 to a 14 ES, I would do it all over again in a minute exactly the same way.

Re: Anyone on there 2Nd Tenere?

After reading this post, I would love to try a 2014 and up to see first hand if it can compare to my 2012. I just can't believe that it would ride better than my 2012 with the mods I have done. If it does then it truly is a deserving bike.

Another option is to paint it. It makes it feel like a brand new bike again.

Really enjoying my second Tenere'. The 2012 was an awesome machine, however the upgrades on the 2014 and up were worth the trade for me. No regrets at all.

Re: Anyone on there 2Nd Tenere?

I'm definitely in the 'use it up' camp. I specifically bought my 2013 Tenere this year (leftover) as a 5-10 year bike. I want a bike I can get my money out of, essentially. I'm gonna ride it until it's too expensive to maintain. Might end up with a 2025 model. :D

I bought a '13 specifically because the improvements were just incremental over the 2013. It is a 'new' generation, but they are fundamentally the same bike with a few modified parts. If I get another Tenere in a few years, it'll be because the one I have is worn out, or they've updated the model completely to something even more brutal and awesome. A few small pieces isn't worth the thousands you'd throw away trading up at this point in my mind. Enjoy your bike until it just don't go no more, then buy a new one. :)

I'm on my second (just got a slightly used '14 w/ less than 3k miles) but kept my first (2012 w/ 20k). Might just keep them both ...

Thanks for the information Fred. I need to discover how to set the three On The Fly suspension settings. Heck I haven't discovered how to set the clock and most of the other standard functions.

Isn't the 2013 model S10 fundamentally the same as the 2010-2012 S10 (first generation}. All the major changes occurred in the 2014+ models (second generation). From reading here and on other forums the second generation vz a vz first generation S10 are like night and day in comparison. The sum being greater than all of its parts ...

YMMV

Re: Anyone on there 2Nd Tenere?

Its not only the Extras on the 2014/15s but the whole package. Had a 2012 so can compare. The bikes are very different on so many fronts. Too many to actually list. Power is better too. Speedo is more accurate. Everything is improved. Yamaha actually listened to what riders had to say and improved 98% of any bitches. Except Shift on the Fly Traction Control. This would be nice. Ability to turn off ABS is no biggie as far as I'm concerned except on a long muddy, slippery, 1st gear downhill which I stay away from. Otherwise no need to ever turn off ABS. I ride a bunch of dirt and gravel roads briskly and find I can go faster, ride harder and cover ground quicker with ABS on. On pavement , its a no brainer. Also love the Linked Brakes. My advise is if you are aggressive and contemplating a Super Tenere is spend the extra on a 14 or 15.

Hi Tim,

Sounds like it is time for you to RTFM. ;D

I suggest starting with page 4-16 to show you how to get to the magic display to change settings on grip warmer, display brightness, display functions, clock, etc. It also has the Maintenance tab which will keep track of your oil changes plus 2 other odometer readings of your choice. For instance, I use one for my front tire mileage and the other for my rear tire mileage.

For presetting your on the fly suspension settings, check out page 4-37.

Thanks Fred. Was able to adjust some of the settings.

Re: Anyone on there 2Nd Tenere?

id like to bring up what i find a big advantage over the 2013 model ....the cruise control ... i use my tenere for touring and sometimes cover 400 - 500mls a day , and i find the cruise control a real plus . not only does it stop that wrist ache and blistered palms over long journeys but i also use it to keep to the speed limits when going through roadworks [ were they have speed cameras ] and your not looking all the time at your speedo .. its also one of the best cruise fitted to a motorcycle , you can adjust your cruising speed up or down by 2mph while on the move just using the + or - button , touch any lever [ clutch front brake or rear pedal ] or throttle and it turns its self off . then after going through a town just press the resume button and it takes the bike back up to the speed you last set it at. i wouldnt like to go back to a bike without it now ....

Re: Anyone on there 2Nd Tenere?

Yes, I had a raven black 2012 and am now the proud owner of a Red ES 2015.
This new bike is more refined and improved over my 2012.
Yamaha hit the nail on the head with the new ones.
What I really like is the cruise control but the engine is smoother and runs better as well as quieter.
The exhaust sounds better and the suspension is dramatically improved.
The instrument cluster and electronic options are much better and ergonomically better.
There is so much that is really improved, the list goes on and on.
Even the front windscreen and what heat there was is better.
I feel very little engine heat, less than my 2012 even.
I think my fuel economy is even slightly better.
Whats not to love. ::008::

Was the seat design changed for the 2014/2015 models?

Re: Anyone on there 2Nd Tenere?

A 2nd Super Tenere just landed in my garage yesterday.

My wife took a spin on my '14 ES earlier in the week. We traded her '13 V-Strom yesterday on a '15 non-ES Super Tenere in Matte Silver.

Picked it up a little after 10 in the morning. Rolled in around 1800 last night with 260 miles on her new bike. She loves it.

We leave for Montana in less than 2 weeks.
