Thanks for the kind words buddies. You make the best friends on a Tenere. :)

Here ya go Truegrip

That's my youngest, rigging the tiedowns. Had a great 72 hours stuck in the truck crossing Texas. Twice.

Hey Combo, got a list of prep to do. >:D

That could be true, but I've read a lot of water cooling blues tales on their new water cooled heads models due to Chinese water pumps and the like. I always have fond memories of a few years back when I was still riding a 1977 Kawasaki KZ650 that I payed $150 for and my wife and I rode that to dinner one night, and there were several Harleys there. Three of them were leaving same time we did. All three would not start. I thought that was pretty humorous and still do. I can ride a $150 motorcycle, and they are there calling for a ride, all three of them. Most likely all three "upgraded" to Harley over the years.
Post your source showing that the Harley water pumps are Chinese.

Aaaaaaaaah, Snake, is that a 950 Super Enduro in your possession? You're gonna have a lot of fun with that one. ::008:: I bought one brand new in early '08 and its still in my stable. Since I also have an '08 990 ADV S I toy with the idea of selling the SE at times but its just so darn cool and I can't bring myself to do it.

Yep velvet, that's a Super Enduro.

Don't let it go. They're getting rarer by the day and you know nobody is ever gonna have the cajones to build anything like that again.
I always had a bit of regret for not stepping up when they were on the showroom floor.
I have its twin sister, the 950 Super Moto. Don't ride it. I was going to go to jail on it.
My Super Tenere rescued me from the dark side. I think my first drive shaft transformed me into a more mature and well behaved citizen on the road.

Anyways, Both LC8's (SM-SE) are an exercise in total excess. Lol

I'm thinking my SM is for spares now!
Gonna rob the choke lever right away. (the only repair I can see that the Enduro needs)

I love my S10

This is true. My friend has one and it is an amazing bike. Good luck with it. Did you see the 990 fuel injected SE for sale on Advrider? :p

What the hell is going on here? I don't log on for awhile and snake goes and turns the forum upside down! Snake that new toy looks pretty well modded already. All that is left is to get a GPS! When can I ride it?

Dang, you make my buying habits look very, very tame...thank you. I need to point out to my wife how slow I am to buy a bike.

That's just Captain negative speaking. My wife's 2002 softail lasted 200,000 km until she got T-Boned and the only thing she replaced was the cams.

Chinese water pumps? I read that on the interweb, it must be true. ::013::

H-D's were just this side of junk during the AMF years, 1969-1981. It was common for dealer to place garbage can lids under the bikes in their show rooms to catch the leaking oil, and most dealer had full machine shops just to keep them going! In 1984, investor owned H-D introduced a new motor, the evolution, or "Evo", that was the turning point and the rest is history. Like many things in life it's the low points that get the publicity and become the legacy. Shakespeare said "The evil that men do lives after them; the good is oft interred with their bones".

I've owned a few during the 90's till 2005 and they were as reliable as a stone, the only failure I experienced was a rear brake light switch failure when going cross country. Pulled into a dealership in Iowa City, they had me on the road in 30 minutes and only charges me $29.00 parts & labor. ::008::

Well i can see we are most civilized on this forum, I went to the Motorcycling Distilled site.
The F-Bombs are dropping on the HD Water cooled subject left and right, no holding back on the beatings!!

But by going to that site i did find out that Casey Stoner is back at Moto GP racing again after dropping his F-Bomb retirement a few years back, that Aussie boy can ride..
Like to see him and Rossi go at it again!! ;)

::026:: That was fun to watch. Reminded me of when I took the Learn to Race Baja course. There was a guy from South Africa in my "class" who was switching teams and had been sent there by Yamaha as one of their newly contracted factory riders. He told us about a race that I though he called the Top of Africa race, but it might have been the Roof of Africa race. The way he described it sounded fairly brutal. At some points needing to get off the bike and drag it up hills. I think he said there were about 250 people to enter the race, and only around 20 finished. I forget the details, but he finish somewhere around 12th.

Did I mention how pathetically out gunned I was in that class? Kinda like bringing a Nerf gun to Howitzer fight.

Congrats again Snake. You're building what looks to be an amazingly fun stable. That SE looks like an absolute blast. Once again I find myself wishing I had a place to ride something like that.

That would be a great show, but can they catch Marquez. Me thinks not!
I'm planning to see the show in April at the Circuit of the Americas. I love Texas. I love my GSA. ::025::
If snake's there I'll buy him a beer. ;D

HD reliability problems? There may be a lot of negatives you can throw at HD but reliability is not one of them. You can about shoot one with a shotgun and it will get you home. Might not even be any slower than before you shot at it.
Rear Cylinder does not get the air it needs so it tends to run hot.
To solve this problem Japs tilted their twins forward to get more air, Harley as far as I know never did that.
The result is often valve problems associated with such nonsense.

Honestly you could not give me one, ok, you could, but I would sell it right away ::001::

H-D's does indeed have to deal with that issue. Their duty service bikes often come with a fan to blow across that rear cylinder.
BMW and Moto Guzzi don't have that problem, the cylinders sit outboard in the airstream.... but air/oil cooling has limits.

I've racked up 66,000 km on a 2009 Road King. The bike hasn't been perfect over the years, but it's never had a breakdown that prevented it from taking me home or where I need to go.

As far as cooling goes, the 88s ran fine as is. The 96 fuel injected bikes run hotter, due to size and because they're set leaner need to meet tougher emissions. When they get too hot at standstill (traffic jams) the Engine Ignition Temperature Management System kicks in, where the rear cylinder stops firing and acts as an air pump to cool down. As soon as the throttle is applied, EITMS shuts off.

Where I live there's a lot of traffic, I wasn't crazy about the EITMS mode so I installed a Ward Parts Werks fan. Works great at keeping the motor cool in traffic jams, since installed the EITMS never kicks in.

Some cooling data here.

Many people do fine with Hogs and lets be fair, what Peter and Kay did with theirs defies logic regardless of brand, luckiest couple alive IMO, but overall it is a poor design that should have been easily changed in several fashions without all the added on nonsense.

Lets face it, Harley sells bikes on nothing more than Image and brand, that is it, for what you pay you do not get much at all. When I tell people I have traction control and ABS who ride hogs they are like what? Kind of the same look when I tell them the HP many of us would like to see improved slightly. Lets not forget about the lack of ES.

I have a dear friend who went thru a few Japn bikes he never really rode, then bought a newer RK. I thought he was nuts, why shell out that kind of money if you are not going to ride?
Now he is always on the road, whatever it takes I guess.

I agree, although I did ride my Virago for 13 years ::001:: The only thing that bike ever needed was fork seals, crazy.

When was the last time you actually checked the specs on the bikes Harley sells? They've offered Brembo ABS on their touring bikes as an option since 2008, and it's gradually been spreading through their other lineups. My '09 also has throttle by wire and electronic cruise control, something that Yamaha didn't offer till 2014 on the Tenere, and self-canceling turn signals. Still waiting for Yamaha to get around to that. ;) The speedometer is also dead accurate, unlike my S10s...
