Some here work so damn hard to justify their choice of motorcycle by taking shots at other brands. I just don't get it...... ::010::

Takes me back to the 80's where all bikes not only used oil but pissed it over the garage floor as well. At least the ones I had did.

Yes, that to!!! ::008::

I don't seem to recall any spontaneous post on the KTM or BMW sites about the ST short comings, failed the noisy CTS, engine failures(that poor guy in Ouray!) poor fuelling, hp limiting, excessive vibs, etc..
Those others just ride what they got because it makes them smile.

It's beneath them to mention other brands on the internet, they prefer to look down their nose at you as you ride by Starbucks.... ::025::

I know that "thinking of swapping" feel, but all you have to do is remove the "swap" from it.

BMW's and KTM and Ducatis and .......
They are all WONDERFUL horses to jump on and ride. And that is just plain truth. We all have the same itch. We just scratch it our own way.

Don't swap your faithful and reliable and trustworthy horse for any horse. You gotta have a horse you can believe in. One that will get you there and back.
But it is that reliable horse that makes it possible to jump on those crazy wild horses just for some fun. Just don't stray to far away from the ranch with them.

Absolutely love my Tenere. So much so that I am throwing a second round of Farkle at it. (Evidence of the decision to go-loooooong with it)
But it's never gonna be a 1-horse barn. I gotta get bucked off of something every once in a while. :)

And as Dirt Dad has picked up on, I have a bad case of it right now.
I know not of what you speak Snake..
my fz07 is shaping up to be a great bike,
but I'm still longing for a efi 650 or bigger single. And it's got to have 21/18 wheels. I may still pull the trigger on a second hand 690, but must wait out the summer, so I only buy one bike once a year...as always though, the tenere stays. I"m call my 2011 a v 2.0, it's like a 2014, without the hit to trade in and cost of new bike :)

I subscribe to Cycle World and their long term results for the KTM and BMW didn't surprise me at all. What DID surprise me was there was no mention of the KTM's unbelievable engine heat problem. For a very short time last year I owned a '14 KTM 1190 Adventure and , no kidding, the bike was unrideable! The bike should come with a disclaimer that says unless your riding pants are made of asbestos you should ride a Tenere instead.

I believe it was you that stated on another thread "You get what you pay for" in regards to Yamaha.

I quit reading Cycle world and Motorcyclist and even looking at online comparisons do to the Gush for the Euro bikes uhhgg.

I know I do not have the best bike, but it worked and is working for me now.

Course I felt the same way on the KLR :p

I know it looks like that. But until July (or august?) of 2011, I was trading, swapping, bartering bikes often.
I think I had 7 or 8 when the Tenere came home.

And suddenly, it all stopped! Completely. Even the wife snapped to it after about a year.
"You ride the Tenere every day. You don't ride your other bikes anymore"

This sudden recent activity is explainable, I promise. Lol
Will make sense soon enough.

(Getting rid of a few bikes soon too)
My rule is I have to sell one thing, before I buy another.

In regards to bikes I like to look like everyone, however I can only ride one and what was the purpose of buying a DP bike if not to cover other aspects?

Life is short, most people die in horrible debt in America and pass that on to their loved ones, I am not saying that is you, but it is a problem.

My goal is to leave debt free, and so far I am doing a good job of that.

Just pick one, spend more time riding, less time thinking :)

I currently have five KTM V-twins ranging in years from '08 to '11 (three are street bikes.) I must say that I've had absolutely zero problems with any of them. My traveler is an '08 990 ADV S and its been an absolutely wonderful and totally reliable machine, BUT, when I am out on the road I still get a bit nervous about the lack of dealer support. I probably shouldn't feel that way but I do. To lessen my concerns I will be soon purchasing a Super Tenere as my traveler. From experience I personally believe that the Japanese have a huge edge over reliability in the motorcycle and car/truck market. For traveling, reliability coupled with a great dealer network, make them a winner in my book.

It'll be nice to know that the dealers are available if needed but equally nice to know that they probably wont be needed....well, maybe for an oil change or other scheduled service when I'm out and about.

Yea, go a ADV rider and read problems on those bikes. The dust inhale problem on the KTM is well represented over there, with many, many engines shot by 8000 miles.
The airbox thread and the threads there about the heat problems, etc. are what steered me away from the 1190.

Over the years two 990 Adventures and a 990 SMT, great bikes and all with zero issues. Simple maintenance on the Adventures was a nightmare but that's it.

Has there ever been an article where a Euro bike was not the best?
If the Jap bike circles the world twice without a hiccup the German bike will be the winner cause it handled better or had better fit and finish.
There is about to be. I don't think anything will touch the new R1!

Debt was necessary in my 20's, 30's, and most of the 40's.
But the wife and I decided those many years ago to not buy money. And we haven't.
I totally agree with you on debt. I am a blessed man to not have any.

But I WISH I could agree on the "just pick one" thing too. But it's hopeless. I'm an addict.
The Tenere did a good job of getting me on the wagon. But alas, it was temporary.

Motorcycles, and riding them, and meeting folks, and.........................brings me joy.
Even the unreliable ones. :)
