I originally posted this on ADVrider but since the crappy photos are of the install on my S10 I thought I would put it here as well.

For starters I used to ride a Vstrom 1000 and I recently switched to a Super Tenere. I noticed the S10 had considerably more engine braking than the Strom did and I generally try to tap the brake when I'm engine braking so I don't get run over. Soooo I broke down and installed a Gearbrake module to do it for me. Through some sort of high tech wizardry it senses the deceleration when you down shift or role out of the throttle and flashes you brake light for two seconds. Also, it will flash the brakes lights the same way when you apply the brakes and then go to a steady on until you release the brake. It's a good little warning device to help be seen and I'm not a fan of cars riding close behind me anyways. It is adjustable but I haven't messed with that part of it. By the way, it is a bonus for me that their a local company here in Louisville so it was worth trying out. I took pictures of the install on my S10 the other day, mine is a "plug and play" unit but there is a cheaper version that you can use by splicing the wires. I'll see if I can't get our local photographer MBABC to video it in action.

I skipped taking pictures of removing the seat and seat height adjuster. I had to remove the 4 bolts holding the tank, the 2 nuts holding the seat locking mechanism and the plastic clip holding the top part of the tray. (yellow dots)

This is what I was left with. The two tabs the I drew arrows towards were probably the hardest part of the whole install.

The brake light wiring harness connector

Lubed up the plugs with some dielectric grease before plugging it in

It says to install the module level and came with this little bubble level to check which helped because I don't think my 4 foot level would have fit into the space. The module attaches with velcro so I cleaned the mounting point and the backside of the module with rubbing alcohol prior to putting the velcro on.

Yeah that's it and now I don't have to worry about tapping my brake every time I engine brake or downshift. Of course the other solution is if people started paying attention when they were driving but you know that isn't going to change.
