funny, no ABS option. Great price though.

EDIT!

I read the review of the FZ7 in UK Bike magazine and they simply love this bike.
few key features about it that jumped out:
-Conventional throttle with good fuelling (READ: Not fly by wire, no TC folks)
-good brakes, calipers sourced from the r1 (some older gen) and disks from a 600. ABS was a 300 pound option, so factor $600 here in NA, if it's even available....
-dry sump motor
-50 foot lb and 74 hp with good power delivery
-approximately 50 mpg (uk miles!), theoretical 14L tank range of about 180 miles.
-light 395 lb wet
-squidgy street based suspension which works for this bike

The soooper important part: Yamaha will use the motor in other platforms!!! :p

Come on little tenere!! ::024::

I would love to feeeeeel how that motor works. And would love a bike similar to the XT660, but with that lump.
That would become my soloADV machine. My F150. (Raptor-style)
The Big Tenere would be my F350

In fact, that's the only way the Big Beast will ever see an 80-20 tire again.

Yep. I would keep the big girl, and the recently aquired shit disturber fuzzy9 (second gear power wheelies at sea level, yes please!)

I also have an unnoficial in with Yamaha Canada.....not telling who and why, but I knew about the 7 last week ::024::
If anything tasty comes down the pipe, we will all know!

I doubt it will be under 400 lb. The fuzzy9 is at 405 lb and is tiny by comparo to the BP (blue pig)
I think if the add bigger wheels (pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeese 21/18") and some more plastic, safety gubbins (abs for sure, tc optional for a small bike)
it will tip scales at 425-440 wet. Still that's the new bike 440lb plus me 190lb with gear=waaay less than what I'm driving around now.

It will be interesting for sure.

Re: FZ7 announced in Kanukistan

If they built it for me:

Long suspension(I'll take a high seat for some long legs)
21/18 wheels
Chain drive for select gearing and reduced weight
Strong enough subframe for a Giant Loop or Wolfman rear bag
Some wind protection(if just a little)
Enough electric for grips and heated gear
ABS and TC if they wish(I'm better with it but needs to be able to turn off for certain situations)
220 mile range (imagine crossing Great Basin, WY)
Weight below 450

If Yamaha would do it and price it like their new line up who would buy a KLR or V Strom?
I don't care if it needs a new shock and forks redone they all do.
I'm not a bike engineer so just blowing smoke and dreaming ::017::

Re: FZ7 announced in Kanukistan

True Grip, if they built what you listed, it can weigh whatever it takes to be that. Cuz it would still be light compared to the Big One.
And, I'm not asking them to crush the competition on price either. (Certainly not the KLR) Just give me the Yamaha that whoops up on the smaller BMW. They already did so on the GSA. :)

Man that would be sweet. I'd get rid of all my other bikes. I ain't riding them anyways. Lol

~700 Tenere on Big Blocks
1200 Tenere on K60's
2 go anywhere YamiADV weapons. Motorcycle nirvana for me.

True Grip, Snake,
you're both preaching to the choir.

I think the fz9 motor would be too much. The 74hp and 50 foot lb of the little 7 would do the trick.

Trust me, I owned both klr and v-stroms, and would never, ever go back. I've drank the kool aid, and singles is not where it's at for me.

Re: FZ7 announced in Kanukistan

Could be a spectacular platform for a mid weight/size adventure bike.

Am I missing something or is the description wrong? It says 41mm "inverted" forks...did someone change what we call inverted now?
Are so many bikes using what used to be inverted forks that that has become "verted" and now what USED to be conventional is inverted? ???

I would kill to fit that motor into a KTM 500/350 plated frame..... >:D

LOL

For me, if they just put that motor and or maybe that basic frame on full dirt forks and shocks {think WR} with 21/18" wheels, NO ABS, NO TC, 6-8 US gal of fuel, comfy seat, chain drive is fine for me, and NO frills....I want a WR450F but with a license plate and a twin 689cc FI motor.....come on Yami

Pretty cool. Also voted "Most Likely to Need a Rear Fender Eliminator Kit."
actually the fz9 has the same ugly rear fender. truth be told, after a few months it simply doesn't bother me.
my SW motech Rack is on the way, and should extend the rear end, and make the bike fun and useful.

I agree a bit bigger than 689cc would be nice, 750, even 850cc ala TDM style would be perfect, BUT, part of the reason the 750 has faded away is many countries have motorcycle licensing sanctions that are incremental based on CC. I believe a common cut off is 700cc so a 750cc bike puts it out of reach for some people's level. Then there is also insurance categories that are also incremental at about 700cc.
And finally, taxes and tariffs are often bracketed at about the same 700cc point, so I personally doubt it will be built over the 699cc threshold. 850cc could be a possibility.

I disagree with Greg that the triple would not make a good Adventure bike motor. I loved it and thought it to be VERY linear and it pulled right from the bottom all the way to redline which is what I want in a multipurpose motor. I do not want a powerband that hits hard at some point. The triple in the FZ09 is a great feeling motor and a simple map switch on the bars could turn it from a fun little bullet to a very controllable smooth off roader.

Kelly...It can't be a triple...my wife will not let me have three bikes.
if the tenere7 comes out I can sell it to her as follows below...

Big tenere= long distance and gravel thrown in and some technical riding
FZ9=UAV (READ: for shits giggles) and general commuter
Twin tenere (I do like your bare bones idea 21/18 light etc etc.. but give us ABS as an option)=technical riding/long distance

you have to be a good sales man... ::015::

I honestly don't think they would stroke the motor. If anything the fz7 motor would be a great replacement for the aging xt660 platform.... just saying.
