Changing Final drive fluid today, just short of 4000 miles since last change. It looked exceptionally milky coming out. Much worse than prior changes. 1st pic is drips on wax paper, 2nd on a paper towel.
Using Yamalube ACC-SHFTD-EX-00. Any clues? No water crossing or pressure washes. I rode it about a mile before draining.

How about two more photos; fresh fluid on same surfaces. I've never seen the Yamaha fluid so don't know what it's supposed to look like.

Perhaps a change to Valvoline Synpower 75W-90 is in order. The drive runs cooler with the Synthetic gear oil.

Looks clear to me. Feel it with your fingers, is it still slippery as a lube should be?
It was slippery, but I've never had it come out this color.

Fresh oil for comparison. Maybe I hadn't ridden enough to warm it up, just stirred up. I do think I'll try the synthetic. I think I have enough to refill with the yamalube but could be close any way.

I’ve never tried dripping used final drive oil onto white paper but to me it looks fine and almost unbelievably clean.

A little milky is fine. Probably some water condensation internally got mixed with the oil to make a slight emulsion. I remember when I flushed mine out at 10k km, it does come out a little milky. Fully syn.

What colour is the synthetic? It’s been a while since I changed mine just before putting it away for the winter, but I’m almost positive it was red.

Look at the OP for the dirty oil. Later pics are clean. I do change it every oil change (4k mi), it was worse than normal. Normally I do it after a longer ride though, and it is hotter. I caught drops since I didn't video the draining.

It is not the color, the frothing in the first photo does look like a little water got mixed in. Now that you've flushed it, you might consider doing so again when convenient. It's not like there is coolant in adjacent passages, so not something I'd worry much about. Just reduce your rear fluid change intervals till normal again.

On a broke in differential, 4000 miles is far too often. Short rides in a hi humidity may very well pull moisture in through the vent, never gets hot enough to cook off. Dunking a hot differential into a cold river will very likely pull moisture in as well and require changes more often, though that's not your issue. Your dirty fluid pictures look good to me as well, water intrusion looks different in my experience. I go 10-15k on my intervals, mine's only slightly darker than that.

It is a Redline GL5 75W90, and if I remember correctly, it is Golden-ish.

My dealer recommended this stuff for the final drive oil.
