I just filled my 2014ES up with gas and got 46.17 mpg. I use the same pump every time I fill up my bike...fill it to the top of the neck...and burn high test non ethanol gas. I did a lot of highway riding and a variety of two lane roads. I do not think this is bad for a big bike.

That is good, I get a little over 52mpg, but I am limited by the speed here, gets expensive if you go fast (not the cost of fuel either)................. ::019::

The tenere is easy on gas, all things considered...
Even with throttle jockey.

my in town riding usually hovers around 6.4L/100 km which is 36 MPG USA.
This equals an easy 330km out of one tank in town.

I've pushed the bike on the highway as close to 400km as possible without pushing the bike to the pump, but still riding it in a enthusiastic manner ::013::
so about 5L/100, 47 MPG.

the above values are actual calculated, rather than displayed. On both my Yammies, the Fuel economy average is optimistic by .3-.4L (i.e. displayed 6L/100km, actual 6.4L/100km)

My fudge9 has been averaging 5.4L/100km (43-44MPG) in the 6k that I've ridden it (95% city riding)

The really depressing part...my 170 HP TDI wagon gets the same mileage as my Tenere... ::015::

I've been impressed with my SuperT. I would routinely get 52 out of my Buell at highways speeds, 62-67mph, and was not looking forward to lower mileage on the ST. But, my recent trip netted 49.5 MPG over 610 miles, not bad at all. I think I can do better than that too.

I am usually close to 40. I've cruised hundreds of miles at 80-85 two up and I'd be lucky to get 35. The fuel tank doesn't care for going much past 70.

I just did 6500 miles fully loaded, and got about 50. I didn't go 80 in South Dakota when I saw that current fuel reading.

I did a search and the only thread I found that wasn't discussing fuel mileage in relation to something else was from 2010! A little warning encouraged me to start a fresh thread.

Anyway, when I first got my '15 ES I did a couple of checks and found the fuel mileage computer to be pretty close compared to calculating it the old fashioned way. Over the last few tanks it seems like mileage has been a little off. When I filled this morning the computer told me 48.3 MPG average over the previous tank. If I calculate it using the bike's odometer since the last fill up I get 45.81. If I use the mileage on my GPS (shows 10 miles less on this tank than the bike's ODO) I get 43.89 MPG. I'm tending to believe the GPS mileage more than the other two and disappointed the computer seems to be so far off now.

I used a variety of T and S settings over this tank as I switch to S for open back roads and highways and then use T for traffic or in-town riding.

I never check the on board average, nor do I use the GPS since I switch it from bike to bike. Others have reported their mpg on the boards (a search didn't find anything???) and while I had my '13, I was getting 44.7 mpg. With my '16, I'm getting 42.6 mpg. I keep it set in the Sport mode and I am probably taking off a bit faster than I was with the '13.

Ya the on board computer is complete garbage. This is the first bike that I've owned that had the range and fuel estimates on it and was pretty disappointed. Would be nice to not have to reset the trip meter every time because you can't trust the fuel gauge or the range.

The Yamaha computer mpg figures displayed are very much inflated, actual mpg with my calculator are usually 3-4 mpg less and that's without figuring in the very optimistic Yamaha odometer. I actually get better mpg with my Honda GL1800 Goldwing.

Re: 46.17 miles per gallon...

Got 33.5 MPG on 660 mile trip (with pannier boxes and duffle on seat). Might have been 'accidentally 'going slightly over the limit (85-90MPH) . . . but with fuel stops every 160-170 trip average was under 80 mph.

Seems counter-productive to cruise at speeds much above 80mph, I can easily go 230-250 miles at slower speeds, with a significant decrease in noise/vibrations - nevermind the increased 'opportunity' of supporting the local LEO . . .

The BMW RT that I had was no different. The countdown on it was just about the same. About the only fuel gauge on any bike I had that was somewhat accurate was a Harley. Yet to meet a bike whose fuel gauge I trusted.

It would be sure nice for any of the bike manufacturers to have a fuel gauge that was at least be as accurate as a car. How hard can it be?

Not to drift too far from the OP, but car gas tanks have baffles in them so the fuel is not moving as much thus can give a more accurate reading......................
But the fuel computer uses data from the last 20km / 20 mins to give a reading, and subconsciously we tend to drive/ ride more conservatively when nearing the last few drops prior to fill up, therefore when just refuelled the computer gives a reading based on the last data it receives and is optimistic. My car when I just refuel tells me I have 1000-1100 range, normally, do I ever get close, NO, more closer to 850kms.

I was down to my last fuel bar with it blinking and starting the count of how far I have driven since hitting "reserve"

I arrive at the fuel station and only fill up 15 of 23 valuable liters...probably could have gone another 160km (100miles) until empty...

GPS's make lousy odometers. The S10's odometer is fairly accurate.... within a percent or so. (The speedo on the first-gen is pretty far out, 8% or so high, but the second-gen is much better.) The discrepancy between hand-computed and bike-computer mileage is more/less normal with the bike-computer typically being a little optimistic, although it may vary from tank go tank. A lot of this variability has to do with how full you get the tank at fill up - squeeze another 0.2 gallons in and your gas mileage computation jumps by 10%. To conclude much of anything, you've got to average over a lot of tanks - I like using Fuelly.com.

Your gas mileage seems very par for the course. In fact, everything you've reported seems close to averages.

Compared to what?

What standard measure or device to you use to determine the 'percent or so error'?
